09 Screw...Step Bar Too Close to Cab?

Is it me or does the step bar seem too close to the cab?....I find myself sliding across the leather to position my foot for stability.
I want to find a fix before my leather starts to go.

Ill remove one and put my Mechanic mind to work later today and see if I can space it 1-2 inches further away from the cab.

Which steps do you have?

I have the chrome ones with the railroad track look and I too think they are to close but the step bars that only have the two step pads seem fine to me

I also thought they were to close. I was able to move them out some from the factory setting by just loosening and pull to the outside while re-tightening the bolts. Then, I may have just got use to them because I'm OK with them now.

Amen brother! I thought I was nuts or too fat...

The cheap steps (399) look more tucked under than the expensive steps (599). I guess it is because the body is wide and flat so they don't want to stick out too far... I may fab up some extenders to make them useful.

Step Bars Cont.......

Removed step bar to have a look and for experimental purposes I moved the step inside bolt to the outside hole on the bracket and it seems better however outside bolt on step no longer has a mating hole in brkt?

Im considering perhaps a 1/4'' steel plate ...say 3 or 4 inches square and bolt it to the bracket.....then drill 2 holes in the plate for the step?.....

still pondering options including perhaps a set of brackets from an aftermarket supplier of steps as they would bolt into existing holes on the truck and perhaps be a little longer than OEM?

Anyone have a solution other than my idea?

I have the same problem, every time I get out of the truck my foot seems to catch the edge of the bar. I'm going to try adjusting them and see if that helps

I don't know, I have the quote "expensive" ones ($599) and I still think they are too close. I don't recall my '06 being this way and I used those step bars all of the time. However, my first 2010, an XLT had none and it was way too difficult for my kids and older folks to get into without anything. So I guess I shouldn't gripe.

Has anyone attempted to mod the brackets to move them out a little yet?

The further out they are the more chance of hitting things with them. Off roaders often don't use steps for this reason.

Agreed, but my truck is a street truck. And if the mod can be done fairly easily I might do it.
