Hot "burning" smell

Hey guys I wanted to see if anybody else has run into this.

I have a 2010 4 door lariat 4X4 with about 10,000 miles on it now.

Every since the truck was new I've noticed a sort of faint burning rubber smell coming from it. I don't notice it so badly when I'm out driving it, but if I park it in the garage and come back after 10 minutes or so you can really smell it.

At first I just blamed it on a new truck and burning all the overspray and stuff off of the exhaust or whatever. Again it's got 10,000 miles on it so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have narrowed it down to somewhere around the front of the truck. I did install a autospring 1.5" leveling kit when it had about 2000 miles on it. I had the truck aligned and I have since taken the wheels off and checked everything and it was all tight and I saw no problems. I can't pinpoint it under the hood either. I have done no other mods to the truck at all.

Anybody ever had this problem?

Good point but I just went out and checked the brake fluid and it is right on the full mark. This is the first time I've ever checked it in 10,000 miles. I'll look it over some more though.

I would definitely be concerned with what you are smelling. For the first few hundred miles its normal to have a burning smell coming from the engine and exhaust. After 10k miles you shouldnt be smelling anything except exhaust gases. If it is indeed a rubber smell I would start by checking all of your belts under your hood. Also check to see if anything is touching your manifolds in the engine bay. If it were your tires rubbing im sure you would feel that and that would be pretty obvious. Look all around your pulleys for rubber marks and also check the belts for wear. If nothing there then move onto your E-fans, maybe something is shorted in them and something is melting. These are just a few places to start, if it gets worse just take it to the dealer. Goodluck.

I have the same "burning rubber" smell you are talking about. My truck only has 3500 miles on it. But I also only notice it after I stop and park it, and its more prominent towards the front of the truck. I also noticed somedays its more, somedays its less.

Same with me. It smells more like a new truck smell (Exterior). I have 3300 on my truck an it smells the same as the first day I parked it. I have found no problems associated with it. But if it concerns you, take it in have them look at it.

I noticed it as well. With the way these brakes dust up, I always attributed it to the brakes in heavy use in the city.

Dumb question, but are you sure the parking brake is always completely released? Maybe it's adjusted too tight? This would make the smell come more from the rear, but it would create a smell none the less. X2 on the leaks too... Make sure there isn't a small leak at the oil filter... You may not see anything leaking on the gound because it could be such a small leak it all burns off before it can drip... easy to fix.
