KBB / Edmunds Value

Have any of you looked on KBB or Edmunds and though the values were a bit low?

I'm looking for a 2009/10 Lariat with under 30k miles. I'm going to get a PremiumCare warranty to be worry free.

I have noticed a few things:
  1. Private sales are sometimes outrageous because the owner owes too much and is looking for too much $.
  2. Dealers are sometimes selling used for MORE than I can snag a new one for!
  3. KBB & Edmunds pricing is usually much lower than both private and dealer.

What are your thoughts?

KBB is simply a guide and the actual prices depend upon region, supply, demand, etc. To answer your questions.

1. I don't know why private seller values are typically lowere than dealer retail, except that dealers like to rip you off (not all, but many).

2. Yes, many slightly used models are listed higher than new, because there are no rebates. That is why I would not buy one, not an F-150 anyway. It worked for my on my trade though!

3. Trade values listed on KBB are close, but not exact. Normally, dealers take about 10% off that number or so, even for excellent condition vehicles with their first appraisals. This can be negotiated though.

Good luck!
