Depends on what oil you are going to use and how often you are going to change it. The Motorcraft filter is as good as any standard filter, and the recommended Motorcraft 5w20 semi-synthetic is as good as any conventional oil. Napa Gold and Wix are good standard filters. If you are going to use a premium synthetic oil and extended drain intervals, use a Mobil 1 or Amsoil filter.

Get your first oil change done by the dealer. Bubba is still using an impact wrench and no oil on the gasket to install the filter at the factory.

x2 My dealer gave me a free first service at 1500mi when I bought mine. He said they like to get the new vehicles in at 1500mi to give them an oil and filter change and a quick goin over. I am kinda nervous about the 7500mi intervals that are recomended in the owners manual but I figure Ford engineers built them pretty tight.

Just got my first oil change last week at 3000 miles (dealer freebie). While there, they recommended to my wife changing every 4,000 or six months. Sounds reasonable. 7,500 sounds too long for me too, even with 7 quarts in there. I like to keep my oil clean.

I got 2 years of free oil changes from the dealer at 3,000 mile intervals. I've never gone the 7,500 mile route with a vehicle. The most I go is 5,000 miles between changes and I've never had an oil related issue or major problem.

Do what the owners manual says to do...they built it, they service it, and they warranty it. I would have to think Ford has it's own best interests in mind when setting out the break in / service intervals to maximize engine life and minimize warranty claims.

ie: Break-in & Personal Experience

I've gone thru a large number of Ford F150s & 250s. I work for an oil field service company and usually get a new pickup every 1.5 to 2 years, and have since 1979. I sell and service oil field chemicals and we haul a lot of 55 gallon drums of product, 550-600 pounds per drum. "My Break-in" is to load 3-4 drums of product and haul A$$. We generally USE our pickups to the 135,000 to 150,000 miles and order a new one. I have never had an engine related problem with any of my service pickups in all this time. I just got a new personal 2009 F150 Lariat and I've got to say it's the nicest pickup I've ever had. I didn't want to do the same "Break-in" that I always do, but I did. It runs great, a lot of power, smooth shifting trans, and a big smile on my face. I also just got a new 2010 F150 service pickup, XLT, not as nice but runs like a champ. This is America and I'm Ford thru and thru, and I'm going to continue to break-in my pickups the same way I always have-"Drive-em like the company is paying the bills!" I love this site! Fords forever!

Forget whatever Ford recommends. If you want to keep your truck for a lifetime, change the oil at 500 mile intervals until you hit 3k on the odometer, then change it every 1k miles until 10k miles. From there, move to 2.5k mile OCI. New oil filter every time too. As for the oil, make sure it's a super duper expensive oil type, way better than the moderately priced Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synthethic blend Ford recommends. For oil filter, make sure you get the electrically charged platinum impregnated oil screened media filter, blocking any particulate greater in size than 1 nanomicro millimeter. No need to use that Motorcraft filter, even though it works well and is very affordable.

Ford stated 7.5k mile OCI in the warranty guide. What were they thinking????

you guys do realize that European and Asian auto manufactures have been using the 8000km maintenance interval for years this is nothing new in the auto world.

plus with better oils better made engines these are factors in ford increasing the maintenance intervals. just follow what ford states just don't do less.
