I would like to see a comparison picture between those that have swapped out the speakers in the F-150's that come with the Sony system. How do the Sony speakers compare to the speakers that are replacing them. I'm too lazy to take my door off, just to see what they look like.

Same thing with the subwoofer if anyone has a picture of it outside of the enclosure.

What did you upgrade to? Amped or running off factory head unit?

well speakers receive input from the radio so if the radio barely puts out power for max sound, you need to upgrade the deck. i found some info through search about the speakers and the deck. you will want to change out the deck while you are at it.

I went with Infinty components in the front and Infinity in the rear doors and I am using an amp. I installed a MTX RE-Q5 sound processor to get the amp outputs - tied in under the console as the Sony amp (one of them) is under it. I wanted to keep the head unit for now.

No reason to change out the head unit - especially if you have the Nav option. Simply add a sound processor and put an amp on.......

Exactly. The stock head units simply don't put out the power to move the speakers. I first swapped out the speakers with a set of infinities and the change was evident, but minimal. Once the REQ5, amps and subs are added, it will make a HUGE difference. (that is if you want subs) The factory radio sounded like an old battery powered am/fm portable radio before upgrading. If you use a sound processor and amps, you get to keep the functions of nav or sync + steering wheel controls and still looks like a stock head unit when idiots with sticky fingers are peering through your windows looking for something to steal. (Made that mistake by putting an AVIC D3 in my old truck.)

im sure not everyone has the nav/radio setup. there are some out there that has a factory radio in there of some sort. i know i do. even swapping out the nav/radio setup for an aftermarket version may yield a bit more power to push the aftermarket speakers for better sound.

at some point, im gonna swap out all my speakers and put an aftermarket deck in my truck for better sound quality. i have always liked infinity speakers and im not sure which deck ill go with. i even considered an alpine deck with alpine speakers.

I wish they would put amp pre outs on stock radios. It would be a great selling point.

I'm using an Alpine PDX-5 for my amp. If I had the cash, I spring for the Kenwood DVD/Nav head unit.

Ibecop (or anyone else who has switched out your stock door speakers)...what size replacement speakers did you use? I swapped out my '05 Lariat speakers with the Infinity Kappa's and there was a noticable difference....I'd like to do the same with my '09 but am not sure what size to get. IIRC my Kappa's were 5" x 8" speakers

thanks for the input!!

A 5x7 or 6x8 will work just fine.
