I know I am asking this on a Ford forum. But does anyone have first hand experience of owning both trucks? I am looking for a best value tow truck for our camper. The Fords are selling high right now compared to the Tundra. I like the extra HP and lower gears etc. The Toyota seems like a strong setup with 4.30 gears, 6 spd etc. Lots of folks are happy towing with Tundras.
I have towed with an 09 FX4 and the 5.4 was pretty watered down the the price tag was in the 43k range.
I am looking at a double cab Tundra 5.7, 6 spd and 4wd for 34k msrp, they are going out the door for 27k.
A similar F150 is another 3-4 grand. Thanks.

 

The Tundra has more power, and thats it. Everything else the Ford is better hands down. If you can wait for the 2011 model year then do so and you will not be disapointed with what you find under the hood of the F150.

 

Theres a reason the yota's are going so cheap right now...not sure if youve been watching the news or not, but Toyota's reputation for quality has been pretty much shot to **** with all the accelerator/brake issues their vehicles have been having. As far as towing goes id take the F150 any day of the week...who cares if the tundra as a few more horsepower. Were not running 1/4 miles, are we?

 

Nobody plans on buying a truck and having to sell it in a year or two, but right now anything with Toyota on it is taking a big hit in depreciation and it will likely get worse before it gets better. So right now you can get a slightly better deal on a Toyota; but in a year or two if you had to sell/trade it, how will its value hold up?

 

I like the deeper gears and being able to shift manually through the gears. I don't think Ford does that. I'll talk to my dealer buddy tomorrow.

 

Don't forget rusting issues with the frame.

 

Well, I know this highly subjective, but I could not recover from the fact that I thought the Tundra is very unappealling inside and out from a design standpoint despite the great engine and reputation for reliability.

 

From what I've heard, the 'Yoda engine uses oil and 'Yoda says it's normal.

Ford engines don't.

Go figure.

 

love my mom's 07 camry se, super sporty (maybe a little too much from recent events). i dunno, the tundra's look like a nice machine but i've had an f150 for the past 8 years and no complaints here (beside that damn TPMS)...

My dad's company truck is a Toyota. He says it is way better than the GMC he had last truck, but gets horrible mileage. He also has a company gas card, so he's not too worried about that. I sent the video about the truck comparisons to him (toyota bed flopping around) and he told me he had noticed the back of the cab was dented already, but thought something in the bed had slid causing it... Now the dent makes sense to him. My parents' driveway is a long washboard gravel road with some divets in it periodically after a good rain. He said he hit a couple late at night in the Toyota and now belives that is what happened to the back of the cab... I've been down that road at high rates of speed in my old f-150 and never had a problem.

 

Before I bought my 09 F150 I did research the Tundras and test drove them.I have to say I'm glad I bought a Ford.Yes the Tundra has a little more HP but that's it.The interior was uncomfortable and flimsy.The truck did not feel solid like the Ford.At the time the prices were high and could not justify spending that much on a product that does not have the reputation Ford has.I would spend more time researching this...I think you will find Ford is by far a better product.

 

How heavy is your camper fully loaded up, and is it a bumper pull or a 5er?

 

Paying a few extra thousand for a superior truck is a no-brainer to me.

 

I went an looked at both today. I will continue my loyalty with Ford. Mainly because of my great dealership. My buddy set me up at his desk and let me search to my hearts content.
I wanted the 3.73 gear, everything on his lots was ordered 3.55 except for FX4, Max Tows and Raptor. So I found a FX4 with cloth within the budget. I went over to get it and that dealer had added 4,200 bucks in large tires, bed liner, tint etc so the deal fell through. Back to the drawing board. They are only showing 2,500 customer cash not the 4,500 like last year. But there is 1,000 dealer cash from Ford he let my have.
