AIR FLOW- 13.00 can save hundreds

So. i have the 3 yr / 75k maint program with my 09 150 plat. I have asked them why the air cleaner was not changed out every or everyother oil change. Their answer was it must not have been that dirty? well. a couple observations are as followes.
I have looked in the air box each time the oil was changed, in 24K only 1 filter change out from what i can tell. ( 2 oil changes ago. air box was not even clipped shut, im assuming vacume would keep it closed)
I have noticed evidence of water/moisture getting into air box. white film suggests spray off interstate or occasional puddle on road might have a chance to get spray sucked in. wet filter. junk after that it seems.
I have for most of this winter avg 14-14.5 mpg. that is off the dash. and backed up by frequent fillups.
I did finally find a filter from autozone ( hard to find that filter around here for some reason. no walmart, didnt want to goto a dealership and answer 20 questions on why not just let them do it) , they had an stp filter. ( i know not the best . ) anyway. poped that in.. went from 14.5 consistnatly now that its warmer out. to just under 19 to 19.5 driving flat interstate at 70.
I am almost through 1 tank. driving with my nike in the same place on the gas pedal. Looks like avg last tank ( true mpg based on fillup and miles driven ) right at 18.7 avg. i drive mostly highway to and from work.

I will be looking into lifetime filters, dont really see a need to upgrade to a replacement intake ect. i have done that in the past. keeping with others suggestions on this site and others. i will just go intake mod, and better flowing filter.
anyone have a recomended brand? part numbers.? i have been thinking in getting a green filter from autoanything.com?

hope everyone has a fun weekend planned.

I'd recommend you not use an oiled filter, the oil can foul the MAF sensor. Amsoil does not have a replacement filter yet.

How does $13 save hundreds again? I am missing something here. At first, I thought you were going to say your gas mileage improved 25% or something but you never really did - thank God.

What i said in my post was basicly the air filter should have been replaced by dealership, the thing was black. Obivously was not flowing like it should have. after having 14K on it!.. so yes.. it will save hundreds.

i will now get at least 100 more miles per tank of gas, as long as my driving habits stay the same. that air filter will pay for itself each time i fill up. this is a savings of 17 dollars on average.

so yes. hundreds of dollars in savings during the life of the filter. keeping it like it was , is bad for the engine. acceleration was crap. and it was costing me about 70.00 per month. extra. makes sense to me.?

as for the oiled filters. yea.. i had them on my 99 and my mustang, and wifes exploder sport. i always let them dry outside in sun to get extra oil to run out. i was lucky i never did have a maf go to the crapper. i hear that does happen however.

I've heard of that happening as well, but I think that it is caused by over-oiling. I ran one on my Mustang for nearly 100,000 miles and currently have one on the Lightning for 80,000 miles and have not had any issues yet. I clean the filter one day and let it dry overnight. I oil the next day and let it dry overnight. Then I put it back in. Of course, that means that you are without your vehicle for a while.

i have used the k&n air filter for many years and never had a problem with the maf i think a lot of people over oil them. i always put them on a paper towel over nite and it absorbs any extra oil and it helps to read the instructions.
