i might be saying something completely stupid, but you think it could be all the wires and crap in the dash? maybe if you just opened it up and ziptied some of that stuff it would help. i could be completely wrong though

The sound is definitely coming from under the dash, on the passenger side. If I could pull the air bag out I think That I could find the cause of this noise. It makes this noise primarily at 1000 RPM. That is for example, going from stop light to stop, or cruising through my subdivision slowly. It does occasionally happen at higher rpm's but not often. For some time now, I have been driving the truck in tow/haul mode all the time. That increases my rpm just enough to prevent the noise. Of course the truck jerks like crazy everytime I slow down to go around a curve, or almost stop, and then accelerate back up to speed. Of course that is another issue! The transmission sucks.
And the dealer can't seem to fix anything

Sigshooter; I had exactly the same idea as you about spraying under the door panel with some kind of silicone, or something. I also thought about removing the door panel, and glueing some felt to the underside of it. I've never heard of Jig A Loo. What is the main ingredient in Jig A Loo?
As far as overall quietness goes, the truck does block out all external noises very well. But the inside noises are the ones that aggravate me!
Has anyone been able to fix this yet? My 2010 SCrew King Ranch just started the same noise. Not the passenger seat. Very annoying!

Thanks

Angry Good luck, I can never find the noise sources.

Let's hope Ford uses their new tech when designing the next F-150. Both the 2004 and 2009 models have interior noises that just irritate the heck outta you. Even stranger is the 1997 model never had any of the noises the most recent two revisions have had in their interiors. Not sure how FoMoCo went downhill from there in terms of interior noises.

I was thinking it sounded like it could be the airbag itself. Is there any way to temporarily remove it?

Thanks

Yes , you can remove that air bag. Just make sure before you unplug it that you have disconnected the ground from your battery, and let the truck sit for at least 10-15 mins.

I've had mine out when I gutted my 2010 FX4

If you have the blow through center console you will have to remove the 4 bolts holding that down to get at the some of the trim bolts.

So disconnect the battery for 15 minutes before unplugging the airbag. How many plugs on the airbag. Is it pretty easy to figure out how to unplug it? Can I connect the battery and drive the truck without the airbag?

Thanks

It was just one plug. I ended up driving my truck for 3-4 days with the actual ABS brain disconnected (the one located under the center console) since I had the entire brain disconnected i didnt care having individual air bags disconnected. I cant say for sure what issues would arise from just having one disconnected from the whole system, and still driving the truck. IMO though, the only thing i can see happen would be your airbag light will be on while that airbag is disconnected, but then again I'm not a Ford Service Tech, so maybe just do some research on airbag systems

Has anybody been able to fix this problem? I have the same problem and it sounds like it's coming from the airbag area. I have a 2008 Screw with an extended warranty should I take it in? So frustrated!

My 2008 had a lot of squeeks/rattles in the door panels and dash near the radio and passenger side A pillar.......especially when it was cold here in Canada. It was almost as bad as a Dodge (actually no.....nowhere near as bad).
My 2011 is really good though. Not really a peep from the door panels and nothing from the dash yet.
The worst sounds I get is the whistling noise from the bug deflector and the whine from the tires........and the reason I can hear these is because these ECO equipt trucks are pretty close to silent.

Found my crackling noise that I thought was under the dash. It turned out to be the front cowl under the outside of the windshield. The noise was caused by the cowl rubbing on the windshield. Someone mentioned this in another thread so I checked it. Spayed some silicone spray on it and it's gone. Hope this helps. BTW i thought it was the airbag as well!

To start with, I would take the glove compartment out of the IP and leave the airbag alone. That be plenty of room to get my hand and possibly a mirror/flashlight in there to see what's loose.
Hope you guys find your rattle/s!
