When I bought my 2010 F-150, I wasn't going to buy the extended warranty until I found out they were having a special short term deal. $500.00 for 6 years and 60,000 miles. Ford ESP, covers just about everything that the 3-36,000 bumper to bumper. I couldn't pass it up for that price. It's the premium warranty btw

This is a tough issue. Warranties make the insurer money. Otherwise there would be no extended warranties. So, just like other areas, it is playing the odds. Maybe it will payoff, maybe it wont. Not everyone can beat Vegas.

I do like the idea of putting money away and using that as the warranty money.

Guess I'm leaning against getting one. I usually dont buy warranties for this reason.

the best part about putting money away is its yours to keep if you dont use it.

Don't bother with the dealer, just call Keith Zwickl at Midwest Superstore in Hutchinson, Kansas - 800 530 5789 or keithz@midwestsuperstore.com. Ensure you get Premium Care, and compare any offer your dealer should make to Premium Care.

I suggest you skip the extended warranty when picking up the truck. You have the factory 3yr/36k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty to figure out if the truck is a lemon or not. Towards the end of the factory warranty, you can still purchase the extended warranty, if needed or justified.

BIG ole,

That is what I've always heard. However, what if you have a vehicle that is plagued with warranty issues during the factory warranty period. Will they still do the extended warranty for the same price knowing all this issues?

I did buy an extended warranty on my 2010 F-150, but did not buy it on the 2007 Mustang GT I just bought with 25K miles, because the cost/benefit wasn't there. There is another 2007 Mustang GT for sale locally for a steal for only having 6,000 miles on it. The CarFax reveals it has had two owners during that 6,000 and it has been in for electrical issues several times. This is why I wouldn't buy it. Obviously it has such low miles for a reason. Would anyone warrant it with those known issues?

A local company bought some new vans for their fleet, so they junked any vehicle with over 200k miles and kept those under 200k. The problem was that those vehicles with 400k were reliable, and those with 175k tended to break down often, and had low miles because the employees knew not to drive it. In the end, they junked the reliable vehicles and kept the lemons. lol

ok i pulled my paperwork...it is a Esp thru ford, 7/60k for $1800 and does say $100 deductable (which pisses me off because i specifically asked her if anything broke within that time frame all i had to do was bring the truck in for repair and i didnt have to pay for labor or parts...and she said yup. Guess thats what i get for not reading the fine print).

But i think whats different is the price of the vehicle. i had a dealer installed 6in bds lift and rims, that are also covered under the warranty.and added to the overal price of the warranted vehicle.

I'd suggest you go to http://www.fordwarrantys.com/ and run your VIN for a quote.

They might be able to save you money. There's an 800 number you can call too - discuss your lift and rims.

Since it's a Ford ESP I don't know how Ford is covering an after market part - not saying you're wrong, just wondering how that works.

The specific dealership i purchased it from is covering the lift, not ford....so if they go out of business im SOL.

I did go to that site though, and they are offering the same plan for about half of what i payed....would be a great deal, but do they let you change?

Yes they do let you change (that's what I did).

You have to pay a $75 fee and your refund will be prorated. All calculations are done by Ford, not the dealer.

The guys at Fordwarrantys are really nice and will explain EVERYTHING. I'd call them if you have detailed questions, 866-379-7095, ask for Mike or Jack. It's possible they will offer you another $100 off...they did for me.

This is what he replied to me with...

"Hi Nathan,

We prefer not to get between you and your Ford dealer. Most times, there is financing involved and it can also get complicated because of that.

Spoke with jack, they cannot encourage me to switch, conflict of interest...but i can do it. My onlly problem now is my dealer told me they would fix ball joints, tie rods, etc of items that go bad even with my lift and tires. And if i change (although its the same exact warranty, just done online) Ford warranty guidelines state if an aftermarket item aka lift and tires causes the defect, they will not cover it.

Ahh...

You've got a tough decision to make. Are those repairs worth the extra cash?

Anyway, hope this helped and good luck.
