Dealer says my truck is LOST!

My first buying experience with Ford isn't going too well so far. I ordered a new 2010 FX4 Screw on Dec 30. It was built on Feb 1st and had an expected delivery date of Feb 8th. I'm in Canada just North of Toronto so Dearborn is only about a 5 hour drive.

After it didn't arrive last week the dealer started calling their order centre and put a rush on it so I could have it for my vacation this week. Yesterday the order centre contacted the transport company to get a trace on it but hasn't received any replies. The dealer said they have received trucks that came off the assembly line AFTER mine but no word on mine. The dealer has NO answers for me and said all he can do is keep bugging them but at this point he said it's LOST and the transport company is not returning any messages or emails.

The sales manager forwarded me an email this morning that he sent to a contact at Ford head office to get further help, but no one has heard anything yet.

I'm so anxious to take delivery but it's getting really frustrating that no one can give me any idea of a delivery date. At least if I knew it was coming on a certain day I wouldn't worry too much but to say it's lost and no one knows where it is is a huge disappointment. I find it hard to believe that I can send a package anywhere in the world and track it online in "real time" but they can't track a $40,000 truck!

Sorry for the rant, I'm just frustrated and needed to vent.

Damn that sucks man...

Good luck. I know if it were my truck that were lost I'd be all over the dealership raising all kinds of hell.

Mine was supposed to be delivered Feb 4th. It along with three other vehicles my dealership had ordered were "stuck on the ramp" until the 11th. My dealership had to keep calling Ford to try and expedite them. I was finally able to pick it up yesterday. Hopefully yours shows up. . . My boss had a BMW shipped up from the states two months ago and it was stuck in a rail siding in Medicine Hat for 3 weeks before it came to Calgary. ..I'm thinking the rail companies are currently the cause of the delayed/lost shipments.

As for sending packages anywhere in the world. . . Fedex seems to loose everything I ship, and those items were not even leaving Canada. They had no idea where my one computer went. They had it going into one sorting facility and it never came out. No where to be found. Once I filed my insurance claim it suddenly showed up the next day. . .funny.

Call Ford customer service yourself and see what they say.

i think i'd be asking the stealership to make good on your "loss". i would ask them to throw in a free line-x or something, when you cough up that kind of dough you should get results and i know they can go under retail to satisfy your needs....

I've called both Ford Canada and US customer service and all they can tell me is that their systems are showing "awaiting shipment" with an ETA of Feb 8th. They are telling me that the dealer has access to more accurate and up to date information. The last update the dealer's system shows is from Feb 3rd.

One positive is that Ford started a $1000 accessory credit yesterday so my tonneau cover will end up being free but they said I'd have to give up the promo of my first month's payment free from when I signed the deal. I told them I wanted the current accessory promo AND the first month's payment as compensation (works out to an extra $500 they'd have to eat). I already got x-plan pricing plus rebates so I'm waiting to get a response to that request.

Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow since I contact them at least once a day.

FX4-LX,
your truck is not "lost". the situation is akin to when you "lose" your baggage when you fly -- it's not really lost, it's just been misplaced or someone may have just "overlooked" it (and then there's those times when it ends up on another plane, in another city, but that's a whole other story in and of itself). eventually it shows up, no matter how inconvenient it may be. unfortunately, there is no way to track a vehicle in real-time, the technology just isn't there or hasn't been implemented yet. the truck is probably sitting at the rail head somewhere, waiting to be tagged/scanned in/loaded up/etc etc etc, whatever it is that they do... This has absolutely nothing to do with the dealership, it is completely out of their hands; you are more than free to convince them to combine the two programs that they are offering you, but I would not bet on them allowing that. Your truck is 10 days late -- that happens more than you'll ever know. No one at Ford or the railway/trucking company is freaking out about that kind of time. Now, would a month, two months+ concern someone up in Dearborn? Oh yeah, definitely. But not 10 days. Give it another few days, maybe even a week and see what happens. Bugging your dealer every single day is not going to accomplish anything.

And just to clarify, I'm not claiming to be 100% on this, but aren't all F150's built at the KC truck plant?

This coming from a former Ford employee and someone who is personally waiting on their 2010 to show up as well...

All the respect FX4, just giving you a possible other side to the story and some reassurance...

i know what u mean. back in 2001, i ordered a brand new 2001 chevy S10 Xtreme and had it shipped to england because i was stationed there. chevy put it together pretty quick and it sat in waiting shipment overseas via govt transport for quite a while. there are other priorities out there for the govt than to ship a POV. the shipping took around 30 days by boat and waiting at ports between the east coast and london. it was a few days late but i wasnt complaining. luckily the govt has a decent way of tracking the orders and where your POV is in the world when they have it in their hands.

No, it's coming from Dearborn and since it's less than a day away it's coming by transport and not rail.

I know it'll get here eventually it's just a PITA that no one can tell me anything. We scheduled our vacation around having the truck to go away snowmobiling and it's not gonna happen.

The dealer told me that on Jan 1st, Ford switched transport carriers and they've been getting transports coming from Dearborn with only 1 or 2 trucks on them. The biggest annoyance is that it could have been here 2 weeks ago. In the meantime if I can get a little bit better deal out of it I figure why not try.

Anyway, I know I'll get it and I know I'll LOVE it, but I can't stand seeing all you guys on here bragging about your new trucks and all I can do is drool!!

Im a dealer that happens every so often. We have had customers complain to Ford about it, some times they will give you money for Ford accessories to keep you happy. Its not really the dealers fault, it will come they always do.

Knows nothing about dealerships. They have nothing to do with this. Thats like sending a package to your folks, then blaming them it didn't arrive.
