First Oil Change

As a new owner of a 2010 F150, at what milage is the first oil change recommended? Years ago, many believed the first oil change change should occur at about 500 miles. Modern technology may have changed this notion.
Also, the dealer (of course) HIGHLY recommended Motorcraft products ONLY. With my previous F150 I used Vavoline 5-20 w/personally purchased filter.
Thanks!

Facts:

1. Follow your manual. Maximum is 7500 miles.

3. Use whatever oil and filters meets Ford's oil spec.

Opinions:
1. 5000 miles is reasonable for almost everyone (based on manual's description of severe driving).

2. MC oil and filters are available at WalMart and are very inexpensive. Why not use them?

Did my first one at 3k and will do them at 5k intervals from now on. Its really personal preference. It definitely wont hurt anything to change it now, if anything just putting a little extra strain on your wallet.

I would have the dealer do the first oil change at around 3k. There's a gorilla named Bubba who installs the factory oil filter and it's a bear to get loose, let them deal with it. Then do whatever you want, as long as you use 5w20 oil and just about anything but a Fram filter. Recommended standard filters are Motorcraft, Purolator, Wix, and Napa Gold.

The dealer is actually making a solid recommendation. The Motorcraft oil and filter is as good as any, and relatively inexpensive.

Just did my own at 1500 miles. Just a personal thing I do with all my new vehicles. I'll go every 5000 from now on.

I use the Motorcraft since it is cheap as water and a syn blend. Motocraft 820 filter all for 20 bucks at Wal Mart.

Wix makes NAPA filters and Purolator makes Motorcraft I read.

For normal use do it at 7500 miles and use a synthetic like Mobil 1 .At the same time change filter and put a can of carburator cleaner in the tank.

I'm sorry, Mete, for the humour at your expense, but I would have to disagree on your advice w/r/t 'carb cleaner' in the tank. It really is not necessary. Perhaps some Chevron w/Techron on occasion, but nothing else. And, a little research will show you that the latest MC semi-synth 5w-20 formulation is superior to today's M1, and is far cheaper. Try to search for Labnerd's posts....

...EDIT - here's one: Look at posts # 4 & 11 ...==> https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...ing-lucas.html

Good luck & no offense intended ....

Cheers & bests!

What do you guys do for the oil life meter thingy? mine says 60% oil life left at only 1300miles on my new truck. So wouldnt it say 0% at 3k. i was planning on every 7,500 miles or probably less since i dont put that much mileage on it in even a year.

Which is another question for me, ive had it 3months and only got the 1300miles...so 6months would be 3k or so...so i prob should change it every 6months then and forget the mileage, what do you guys think?
