SR-A's on a 4x4?
Swapping out my SRA's soon too, I have dedicated winter studded tires on rims, I plan on picking up some 33" BFG At's before the warm weather starts hitting here. Have had them in the past and they are a great tire that has wicked tread life (got about 80,000 kms on my last set). The SRA's aren't a bad tire if you just plan on highway driving and you don't mind the look of them, but to me they look too "carlike" and don't belong on a 4X4 that actually does a little 4X4'ing.
With street tires, you might as well have a 2 wd. When I bought my 98 F150, it Continental Contris on it. The night I got it, I went to help my girlfriend move. backed up close to her front porch, on wet grass, down a gentle slope. Once I was loaded up, went to leave and truck couldn't climb the slight incline. Went and got BFG ATs about 2 weeks later.
I have The Wrangler SRA's on my truck...they came with it. The funny thing is on my spec sheet for my truck it says AT tires...not sure what that's all about. Anyway, I have to say the SRA's are a good highway tire. Most of my driving takes place on highways and freeways in snowy/icy conditions. They do perform well, but I don't think they would perform too well off road. They certainly are not the best looking. I now have 8000 miles on them and will replace them once I figure out what i want. My current thought: Bilstein 5100's with 33" Nitto Terra Grapplers.
I traded the SR-A tires as soon as I got my truck for Nitto Terra-Grapplers so I had no experience with these tires in the snow. My patrol vehicle Dodge Durango has the SR-A tires on it. After driving in the snow this past week I can tell you that the SR-A do NOT compare to the Terra-Grapplers in snow!
Can someone explain to me again why Ford thought this combo was a good idea.
We got about 8 inches of snow here in Texas today. I was on my way back home from Amarillo and was about 35 miles from my driveway. There was a toyota celica about 8 car lengths in front of me going about 30 mph. We were on a two lane road and he went into a skid. He went broadside to me, over corrected and went into the ditch. As this whole thing was developing, I had to hit the brakes pretty hard so as not to hit him. Consequently I go into a skid and end up in the ditch. Long story short, 4WD + street radials = me not getting out of the ditch. A couple minutes later a guy came along and pulled me out. Worst part was that it was a Dodge that pulled me out. When the guy pulled up he smirked and said, "Do you need my Dodge to pull that Ford out of the ditch".
The SR-A's will be getting replaced in very short order.
Oh, and the guy in the celica had Colorado plates. So much for people from CO knowing how to drive in the snow.

I have no idea why you would hate an entire brand of tire (even if you think the SR-A's are doing well in the snow). The Wrangler Silent Armor's are a far superior tire for winter conditions. You might give them a try if you can get beyond your brand-based biases.
I had a set of SR-A's on another vehicle.... it's an atrocious tire.
That tire is worse than the Firestone tires they had on the EXploders way back when... the SR-A tire on anything but dry roads is a hazard to your life and the life of others.
I give the GY SR-A a -10 if I could!

Man, I would not want you as a judge in the Olympics...-10...lol. I agree...definitely not rated high in the snow condition department.I have 8000 miles on mine and so far not too bad.I would not want them in an off road situation like snow.Don't you think though some of it is how a person drives??

Curious as to what tire size you went with?
Well here in Virginia we have gotten a shat load of snow here lately, and my Goodyear sr-a have had no problems with the snow at all. I'll be the first to tell any and everyone I hate Goodyear tires with a passion. But the tires have been doing a good job. Sounds to me like you were going to fast for conditions, and made the worst mistake of slamming on your brakes in the snow.
1. Hit him.
2. Hit the brakes and take the chance of ending up in the ditch.
I think I did the right thing.
I should also note that the guy in Celica made a comment about needing new tires when I talked to him prior to getting pulled out of the ditch.
Went with a LT285/65/18 which is really 32.6". Not dramatically bigger than stock but looks way better with the more aggressive tread. I dont have any pics posted since the 2'' level and new tires but will try to get some up soon.
MY Wrangler SRA's where off the truck within 3 months and 4,000km. Garbage tires, sway controll would continously be on and it was not even a bad snow storm. I replaced them with Nitto Terra Grapplers an E rated tire. This is my summer tire and I have Blizzak DM-V1's for the winter. We have bad snpw storms here and I won't risk it. The Wranglers where bought off of me by a person who is returning there leased F150.
