Check you shock bolt!!!!

Hey guys, thought I would share a little story with you.

So after picking up 10 2x4s at the lumber yard on the weekend, driving down the road I here hear a distinctive clunking noise driving down the road, thinking nothing of it and assuming the lumber is just jostling around in the back. Clunk clunk clunk down the road it seems to have more of my attention as I notice the lumber isn't really moving, I turn the corner and figure i;d check it out when I get home. Go over a pot hole on the road, and all of a sudden my truck feels like its all over the road. I pull over to notice that I have somehow lost both my Lower shock nuts and one of the lower shocks bolts only holding one side of shock mount, the shock is twisted and and barely sitting in the mount. Luckily my buddy had some hardware that worked out to fix it up what what a load of crap. Luckily, the bolt holes did not egg out or end up out of round.

I did some research today and found out that the bolts used have no "lock" to them. I was expecting a nylocks, or grooved nut or something. Nope, just a standard shouldered nut. I really have no idea how they would have come loose. They have never been touched. I do have a leveling kit, AAL and run 305-55-20 tire on stock rims, but I cant see tire hammer make these go????

Just for reference, both top and bottom bolt settings is 66 ft-lbs. Might want to check yours.

I'll have some pics as soon as my buddy sends them to me.

Good to know, thanks for heads-up.

Did you install the mods yourself, or someone else, just curious?

I agree with OP on torque for upper and lower nuts: 66 lb-ft.

Also, new nuts must be used each time the nuts are removed.

I had someone else do the work, but the rear shocks where not touched. You dont need to remove the rear shocks to slip in and Add a leaf.

Rear shock torque setting (upper and lower bolts) is 66ft-lbs.

I beleive this would be under waranty for replacement bolt and nut, but after this I do not just want a shouldered nut... so 1/2" washer, lockwasher, new G.5 yellow zinced nut and a slash of locktight is on there now.
