Question AFE Exhaust and Intake

Anyone have either of these installed? I'm having the AFE cat back exhaust and Intake installed on friday up in Corona. Wondered if anybody has personal experience with this gear, just wanted some opinions. I'll post more details soon.

I presume y'all have seen this? ==> https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...highlight=2009

What can be gleaned from that thread is, aftermarket intakes on 2009+ 5.4's are essentially a waste of money. The stock system is that good. Sorry. And cat-backs are good for sound only - not gains worth speaking of otherwise. Again - sorry. Marketing hype is..... well, hype ( a.k.a.: BS)

Also be careful running a canned tuner (e.g. Edge) with any true aftermarket CAI that alters the MAF location. Not a good idea, as the Edge cannot correct for this. Only custom tuning can, safely.

Just fyi ...

Hey MGD I'm not sure if you tried to post a link there but nothing showed up. Anyway, I'm not installing any of this because I want performance gains, Street Trucks Mag is doing a tech article on the AFE exhaust and Intake and my truck is the guinea pig for the article. It will be on the dyno before and after, so we'll what improvements this gear makes. I'll keep you posted.

Does anything need to be tuned after installing this stuff?

See if they can tune your truck on the dyno.

Sorry buddy - would you believe I used a White font? lol. Fixed it now. Thanks. Gettin' old

That sounds excellent - good luck, man! Make sure they also plot A/F's along with the HP $ TQ numbers. That link I fixed would be a really good reference for you. Print it and take it along.

They would have to supply a flash device - would be great if they included that too!

Interesting, will be watching for your results! Great oppty to dyno before and after to see how the 2009 5.4 really responds to the CAI and tuner. On my '05 5.4L I had the AirForce 1 CAI with the Edge tuner and Magnaflow exhaust. The CAI and exhaust didn't really seem to make much difference but the Edge tuner was night and day. Back then Ford we had the "Throttle Delay by Ford" pre-programmed into the stock tune and the Edge really woke it up off the line. That alone was worth the price of the Edge. After a couple of years running the AF1/Edge/Magnaflow exhaust I finally removed the AF1 as the intake drone was just annoying and once I added back the stock filter/housing - it didn't seem to hurt performance and was blissfully quiet again I don't mind some intake noise but going between LA and Bakersfiled twice a month (family) the long gradual climb of the ridge route finally drove me nuts with the intake howling all the time. I was prepared to pcik up and Edge tuner for my '09 - but it doesn't need it - Ford changed the programing and with the 6 speed tranny it's plenty "lively" off the line Still...can't wait for your results

I have a 2010 5.4 and the throttle delay is crazy. I had better response with my '04 5.4. I guess I need to bring it in to the dealer and have them check it out. It takes a full second or more to respond most times.

That is ridiculous. You must have something wrong. Electricity travels pretty damn fast ya know? I am very pleased with my 2010s throttle response

I noticed the throttle response with the AFE was better....the stock was ok but a noticeable difference with the AFE.
