hypertech energy max...spark knock??

I just bought this tuner and installed the regular fuel tune and it spark knocks!! Has anyone here had experience with this tuner...will it "learn" and stop or do I just have to run higher octane gas with this tune? I know the custom tuners are better but I didn't want anything that extreme or expensive(got a good price on this one)....so anyone here running hypertech?

I have not looked, but if that unit (newer model) allows for some timing retard and/or fuel octane incremental adjustment, perhaps this can help.

I just do not advocate a canned tune - this is one reason why.

Nice truck - deserves better - deserves a custom tune. Sad thing is - you would have paid about the same to get this.

Otherwise stock truck?

Look around here - but typically approx $400 for the handheld device including three custom tunes of your choice. Any way you like them. Day & nite over canned tuning.

Top choices include either VMP or Troyer Performance, using SCT hardware / software - or PHP/Gryphon (Edge hardware, PHP software)

Quick - dump yer Hyperblech inthe Classifieds - don't tell anyone

EDIT - okay, to be fair ... looks like this unit is internet updateable - perhaps contact them to see if a revised calibration is ( or will be) available for your strategy code. Worth a shot - do not want to see you waste $$$ ...

Good luck

I have had the same Hypertech Max Power tuner since 07 when I bought it for my 07 Lariat and when I picked up my 09 Lariat I had to wait a couple of months before they finalized the new specs and then down loaded those ( 87 octane ) and I picked up alot of HP ( 35 HP and 42 lb/ft Torque: this is from a conversation per their tuning dept guy and he said burn 87 all day and you are good to go. However I am a lead foot and did have some pinging under hard acceleration ( which was all the time ! ). Now I just took delivery of my 2010 Lariat Screw and they just released the updates for the 10's ( which is actually different because of the new electric cooling fans and other recalibrations done by Ford. I have not down loaded it into my 10 yet as it only has 62 miles on it but when I do I will post my findings for everyone. But this will be my THIRD truck up graded with one tuner so it has definately paid for itself ( free up grades FOR LIFE ).
