Engine Bay Very dirty

I happened to notice that under the hood of my new truck it is extremely dirty under there after only 3000 miles. I am wondering if maybe i have a problem or should i be concerned about it? it is covered in salt and all kinds of dirt and i have never took the truck off road or anything. my dads taurus has 25k on it and you can eat off the motor. has anyone else noticed this?

Yep, mine does it too. All kinds of road salt up in there. It's because the wheel well covers aren't adequate to protect the engine compartment from road grime. I've read lots of horror stories from guys on this forum who have tried to wash their engines and engine compartments so I'm not sure what the solution is. In the spring I'll try to clean it up as best I can and then work on seeing what I can DIY fabricate to go in the wheel well to protect things a little better. I've seen one or two pics on here of other guys who have done something like that.

Can you explain this a little more, what exactly happened? My engine bay is a little dirty but once it warms up a little i just planed to buy a engine bay cleaner and spray the engine compartment with it and rinse. Is there something different with these trucks that you cant spray the engine bay off?

Go take it to a local car wash place that has a engine bay steam cleaner. I did this on my 08 (has same dirty engine bay problems) and it looked brand new when they were done. $30 was well worth me not having to scrub and toil away on every part of the engine bay. Just make sure they stay away from the stickers/warning labels on the fan shroud if you want to be able to read the print later!

read though your owners manual. it will tell you the proper way to wash your engine. theres no reason not to wash your engine bay if done correctly.
