Anyone have an engine failure on a 10 or 09
If you paid 45k for a Ford F150, that's your first problem...
I'm with Deano. Why would Ford replace your entire engine because of a slight top-end failure (not exactly an 'engine failure')? It's not the end of the world, it's a cam. I get that you're frustrated, but you're taking it way too far. Hell, if Ford replaced an engine every time it had a slight failure, they'd be in the same boat as GM and Dodge right now.

In my old Fox Mustang i had a lifter turn and it ground the cam and the roller on the lifter flat. There were metal shavings everywhere. I have not see what it looks like when it happens in a ohc motor but I had shavings all over the crank and in the oil pan. I understand you worrying about it but I do agree with them if you are only keeping it 2-3 years and you have a 5 year warranty i would just let them fix it. My last warranty claim they gave me a mini van and that was on my 03 cobra that the alternator went out. Let me tell you i was real excite to be driving a mini van a few months after buying a new Cobra.
I agree that the 5.4L is a good engine. I also have one in my '97 with 200,000 on it. Not sure if it is the same 5.4L as my '09? But with all due respect, nothing mechanical is "bullet proof"!
That sucks to hear, but it sounds like Ford is doing what is necessary to repair your vehicle. I would be just as frustrated and feel probably just as you do... BUT... let them do the repair and see what happens. As others have stated, if it fails on you again, it will get fixed and you will have more of an argument at that point... but the likelihood of it being an ongoing issue is pretty slim...
Here's some frustration for ya'... my wifes '08 Expedition EL just turned 40K miles (just out of regular warranty) and suddenly it's blowing fuses on the rearview camera/backup sensors AND the tranny is making a horrible whinning noise intermittantly. We had to go through the owner of the dealership to get them to consider these repairs under warranty... the part that sucks is that they have no real good way to trace down what is going on with the rearview camera/sensors as it does not give the computer failure codes... and the few times we've had it in, they've not been able to duplicate the intermittant whinning in the trans... the frustrating part is we bought this vehicle to keep for the long haul and I'm slowly losing faith that it'll last the long haul.

Engine Failure
My engine failed at 82,000 km. I am the second owner and Ford will not fix the engine under warranty. They have claimed engine damage, due to low oil pressure from sludge. The camshaft phasers failed resulting in cam damage. I have had two other mechanics look at the picture who do not agree. Now I am starting the fight with Ford Canada. My biggest problem is I dont have the service records, only one, because Im not the original owner.

Your concerns about metal shavings are warranted and if this motor has cam bearings then there most likely is damage to 1 or more of them.
Once a bearing is damaged you will have stuff that looks like glitter throughout the entire engine. The worst is you can't just flush that glitter out with a few oil changes, heck you can't even get it all out if you tore the entire engine apart and power washed the inside because it finds its way to places that aren't accessible and it sticks like a magnet.
If they give you a hard time about a more extensive engine repair I would suggest you buy an oil filter cutter (about $30) and use it to inspect the inside of the filter for the first few (or every) oil change. If it comes out clean great if not you have a leg to stand on when you take it back to the service dept.

Don't think a "new" engine is what you want, as another poster mentioned its gonna be a reman. I would suggest asking for a new truck but they probably wont go for that so you can say then instead you want an extended warranty (if you already don't have one) for PremiumCare 7 year 125k miles...
