Seat frame rust

New member. Just took delivery on new 2009 Lariat S/C with heated/cooled seats. Discovered frame of passenger seat covered in rust. Any other 2009 owners experienced this problem? Could this be related to seat cooling? Have appointment with dealer scheduled and will be asking for seat replacement.

You need to see if the third brake light is leaking. I took delivery of a truck and it had the leak. I had/have rust any of alot of the bare metal inside the truck. They have replace some but still not 100%

That's not related to the cooled seat. You've either got a leak or someone left the passenger window open. If it's limited to just the one seat and not also on the framing, brackets, etc under the dash. It's probably from an open window.

It's not an unusual thing to find vehicles on dealer lots where someone forgot to close it up completely. Generally it's after a test drive that didn't lead to a sale.

Hopefully you have a dealer that's interested in making you happy. I'd bet you'll walk away annoyed at best.

How did you find the frame of your seat rusting? Did you use a flexible scope?

Anyways, good luck getting Ford to replace the seat frame. Let us know how it goes.

Dealer says that Ford said rust under the seat is normal!! Is there another 2009 owner out there that has rust on the seat frame under the seat or am I the lucky one. I think Ford is painting the frames on the 2010. Anyway, time to go up the chain-of-command.

Never noticed if there is any rust on my seat frames but those frames are wicked sharp. Gave my hand a nasty little slice when i was installing my CoverKing Neoprene seat covers.

Still trading phonecalls with Ford District and local dealers with little resolution. No one can find another 2009 or 2010 with rusted seat frames yet they consider mine normal!! Competitors truck seats are powdercoated/painted. I just can't be happy purchasing a new vehicle with rusted seats. Wish I had discovered it before signing the line. Will keep trying.

Take a peek under the dash. Remove the panel under the steering column and you'll see a lot more.

Yep. Haven't looked on my '09 because it doesn't bother me one way or the other but I know my '04 had rust under the dash. Noticed it when I installed my remote starter.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I have a 2009 F150 which had a leak through the cab light as a result I also discovered rust under the seats and am being told it is a normal characteristic of the metal due to it being unprotected.
