backseat headrests in 2010 Lariat

I just got my 2010 Lariat and I sure don't like the headrest in the back window. They are HUGE! They really cut down on being able to see when backing out and such. You only have about the middle third of the window. I sure don't like that.

I would replace them with the rear head rests from an '09. The '09 trucks don't have those huge head rests.

They sure do look awful. Hopefully Ford will change them for the new 2012. Best you can do for now is try to find some from a 2009 and switch 'em out. Do it with one on the lot if you haven't bought the 2010 yet, before purchasing as a condition of sale. I'm sure there must still be some 2009's hanging out on dealer lots, not like truck sales are flying high in this economy.

I'm thinking about getting a 2011 for the new engines, and I will 100% take out my back headrests and switch 'em before taking the 2011.; I hate those huge ones, exactly for the reason you stated - visibility/safety is severly compromised.

You should be using your outside mirrors when backing up. The in interior mirror is only to see who's behind you at a glance when driving, and even then shouldn't be counted on as primary.

I noticed mine at 1st, but now, don't really notice them when backing up. If you mirrors are adjusted right you should be able to see most things.

Get the rear-view camera and don't ever worry about it again.

Backing out of a diagonal parking spot you need to look out down the street to see if anyone is coming. That is hard to do with that headrest there. Looking in the mirrors won't show you who is coming down the street.

That's how I am now...The first time I drove the truck, I couldn't believe how bad it bugged me. Now I am getting more used to it. The rear view camera in the nav is the hard part for me to get used to. For some reason I just can't get myself to trust it 100%. I always feel like I need to turn around and look!

When I first saw the restyled headrests on the rear seats for the '10 truck, I couldn't help but think how more difficult it would be for those owners without backup camera to move the truck in reverse without hitting something.

If you have little rug rats in the back seat, why not remove the head rests altogether?

Agreed.

While having your mirror's adjusted properly is a good point (many never adjust their side-view's properly - they're alwyas pointed to the rear instead of the sides), as well as the back-up camera, it's still nice to be able to look out your own windows as necessary. Like someone else mentioned, perhaps just take them off, unless you usually have people back there.

Most cargo vans in NYC don't have rear windows, yet they paralel park all the time just using outside mirrors.

Hell, as much as those head rests block they might as well not even put in a rear window. Just put in a piece of sheet metal.

With defrost!

You know, I just thought of something. CometFlash, if you had those headrests, you wouldn't need to complain about lack of rear defrost!!
