Need help- 2010 Lariat 4x4 Supercrew for military family moving back stateside.
My three years overseas is running up and I am talking to these jokers http://www.encs.com/ about having a truck ordered and ready for me when I arrive at my next base since I have nothing back home.
They are offering me $5,500 in "military pricing/savings" plus $500 for graduating college. Wee.
Here is what I have selected-
So in the end I'm looking at a $35,000 Lariat. Is this a good deal?
I've heard the market is pretty good for new cars. Will I be able to get a better deal through a dealership? Should I try harder for 09 models? I'm a bit detached on how things are in the States.
Unfortunately I'd have to do most of this over the phone and I'd like to have something setup for when I get off the plane in San Antonio, TX so I don't have to hassle with throwing money at rental cars and all the while looking at houses simultaneously.
Thanks in advance!

PM sent, I think. It wasn't readily apparent like some other forums.
Gir,
I have a family friend who runs a Ford dealership in the Central Valley (CA). Shoot me a PM and I'll send you his contact information. Your current deal on the Lariat is OK - but not really a "killer" deal...call him and tell him exactly what you are looking for, what your current best deal is and he'll beat it for you. I have a 2009 Plat and at the time they were going for between 15% - 20% off of MRSP.
Good luck

You'll be hard pressed right now to find an '09 left with what you want on it.

Although I have never used them, I have been told by many that the AAFES car buying service is a good deal. Maybe not as good as you could get in person, if you were a good haggler, but still a decent deal.
My two times in FRG I bought a Volvo wagon (82 and 94) using the Volvo military and diplomat service - same thing a decent deal with no hassles.
Are you a USAA member? Their car buying service is also easy and a good deal. I ran your specs on their web site, and came up with the same MSPR of $40,940, and their suggested price is $34,378, so a little less than the AAFES price. But for this you have to contact one of their affiliated dealers in San Antonio for the exact price since according to the USAA web site " Texas laws state that only a dealer can provide your vehicle price. Please contact the participating dealer to get your USAA Member Price". The USAA price included $3500 in incentives (500 college grad, 500 military and 2500 customer bonus cash).

Pig9r- this is good SA.
I am. I used the calculator and was impressed especially with the trend info. However, I have a hunch and what the others are hinting at this may be underachieving the deal that I could get for the current market. It's bascially the same as the AAFES one but without pricing guarantees.
Unfortunately without lots of phone calls AAFES is my only source of info and I need to be comparison shopping just as I would if I was in the states.

I would think you can still go with the basic assumption that you can drive the deal down to 20-22% off of MSRP. I was able to get 22% but I had the time to haggle for almost 2 weeks. You might be willing to negotiate 20% off and live with paying slightly more for the convenviance of getting it done quick and easy.
Rough numbers - 40k MSRP with 20% off is 32K- when I bought my 09 Fx4 6 months ago the research I did and what others told me was expect to be able negotiate 20-22% off. I asume that is still true.

check out kbb.com and price it out invoice verses msrp
I used the USAA car buying service and was completely satisfied. Built the truck on their website on a Thursday, contacted their local affiliated dealer on Friday, made an appointment with him to order the truck the next Monday, and 19 days later the truck was in my driveway.
I paid 18% of MSPR, as confirmed both by USAA and the Kelly Blue Book site. That was good enough for me. I have neither the time or especially the desire to haggle for two weeks, visit multiple dealers and put up with the other BS associated with a trip to the dealership in order to get another 2-3% better price.
It might be worth your time to talk to USAA and their San Antonio dealer.
