What were they thinking....

Sorry guys but its been bugging me since I went to look at the new F150s. My partner just bought a new Lariat and its been driving me crazy since I found out its not even functional. I'm referring to the reflectors on the side mirrors!!! No offense to anyone but they are just sooooo cheezy. Again if I offend anyone I appologize but I dont think you can disagree. Anyway, I'm gonna shackle it for him and was wondering if there's anything to do about the reflectors? Looks like its integrated into the mirror itself. It's not my truck so I don't want to go digging into it without knowing if it pops out or anything.

thanks guys.

There are some people who have bought the led strip that the mirrors have on the "mirror-side" and put it on the outside in place of the reflector. It is cheasy that Ford did that.

The STX trucks have a black insert that matches the mirror. I just took a rattle can to em' and it looks much better and cost me next to nothing.

Oncoming vehicle on a small unlit two-lane road, catches the reflectors in it's headlights and there you go, no sideswiped mirror. Yeah, it's cheezy that they don't light up. I felt kinda letdown when I noticed that, but oh well, doesn't bother me.

Yeah I know its purpose but seriously, reflectors on the mirrors?? Not even those F250s with the telescopic mirrors had them and hey are huge. I don't wanna bash on them, just wanna know how I can help my buddy out to get rid of them or hide them.

Oh and just for the record lol.... most collisions involving mirrors are cause by the driver sideswiping or misjudging an object traveling in the same direction. Although it does occur in opposite directions like you said, it is rare.

sorry and thanks

If you dont like them just paint them black with Krylon Fusion and put a clearcoat on to protect it. You can do gloss or matte finish.

You can buy the black plastic insert from Ford. From what I understand it is cheap and easy to replace.

tascafordparts.com has the inserts ($7/each). Already have a set. Gives the mirrors a "clean" look. 1-800-915-3141

Weird, I never even noticed. My 2010 Lariat doesn't have the reflectors. Glad they don't. Not sure what purpose they would provide. And look a little ugly.

The standard mirrors do have them but the tow mirrors do not.

Here is my truck with the 2 mirrors
