Talking That E-locker is GREAT!

Loaded the family in my FX4 'screw yesterday and went xmas tree cutting in the snow. Travelled with a group of 3 superdutys and a Tahoe all with A/T tires and me with the oh!-so-popular SRAs. 2 of the SDs were on 35's. No BS, that truck never slipped or struggled once, even when the SD in front of me forced a stop and start on a hill(seems his limited slip wouldn't!). When we finally stopped, 2 guys came and looked at my tires and just shook their heads. We were driving on packed stuff mostly, deep enuff in places to scrape the skid plates a fair amount of the time, temps about 34 degrees. I don't do this kind of thing very often, and have never experienced a locker before, but if you like to play offroad I'd sure recommend a FX4 just for that rearend.

I'm originally from Montana and used to this all the time. Unfortuantely I'm in So Cal right now but I'm in the process buying a new Fx4 so when I go back home I can play in the snow again.

Lockers for the win! Reminds me of a (hate to say it) toyota my friend had once. True lockers in the front and rear and this little truck would go cross rut/side rut, almost anything most "stock" Fords couldn't do. When and if I ever have the money you can bet that I will get some so that when I hit 4wd I will have 4WD!!!

Wont work in 2wd though right? I was on the wet, almost frozen grass in my 09 FX4 yesterday and left a single spin track ... in 2wd. I know the 4wd works great though.

You can only engage the locker when in 4x4. To bad, really. I can think of many instances where the locker alone would be handy.

I love my 2010 platinum 4x4. However, its most glaring "weakness" is the lack of a locking rear differential.

Fellas, help me out. I just bought my 2010 FX4 on Black Friday. I saw that it had the e-locker, and I can't wait to try it out...but does the axle not have limited slip in 2wd? I thought it did, but then I read F_ast's post...

I think it does. Ford build page just says 3.73 Locking differential. It does have traction control. Helped me out today in the pouring rain a few times so I wouldn't spin out while accelerating.

It is NOT a limited slip. It's all or nothing. I'm not sure which would be better to have on a day in/day out basis. However, when you absolutely, positively gotta get hooked up, give me the E.

I believe he's asking if when your not in 4x4 with it locked, is it just a regular LSD.

In 2x4 = open dif
In 4x4 = open dif and locked if you lock it

And that's only good for FX4

Hmm, that's too bad, at least to me. I'd like to have the ability to have a LSD when driving around in 4x2, which would be most of the time.
