Dash Lights

My dash lights do not come on when the lights are during the day. I went back to the dealer and they say they think that is the way it work's. Does anyone really know.

The lights are controlled by the sensor in the middle of the dash tray (top). You can cover the sensor with tape, hat, etc. but there's no way to turn just the dash lights on if it's daylight.

My 2010 does this. The dash lights will come on if you cover the sensor like Shotgunz mentioned, or drive through a dark area like a tunnel.

It'll take some time, but should be a much nicer fix for anyone not wanting to cover up the sensor with tape or a hat. Anyone thought of spraying VHT Niteshade on it? For those that don't know what it is, it's basically a can o' tint, lol. Spray it on tail lights to smoke them, and spray more if you want them blacked out.

A few quick shots of that should smoke the sensor even more and get the desired effect. The sensor looks smoked already, just not enough obviously. Prep for this, masking and taping off the entire dash, windshield, etc will take some time, but I bet the outcome would be much nicer.

Funny I saw this today. Foggy here on the island and when I was taking the girls to school, I kept turning the lights on and off because the dash lights would not come on. Finally stopped to see if they were on (and they were). Took my Kindergartner's reader and put it over the sensor and they came on.

My 14 year old likes to tell me the truck is smarter than me. One of many people and things that are.

Thats alot of work there. Why not just get some model paint and do it that way. Alot less chance of ruining the interior.

Or you just pop the sensor out with a flat blade screw driver and unplug the harness. Takes a whole 2 seconds. You can then paint it (nightshade) away from the truck and then re-install it or you can leave the sensor off altogether and the lights will still work fine with the exception that if you have the headlight switch in the auto mode, the headlights will come on anytime the truck is on.
