Not happy with pirellis?
Is it just me or are the oem 20" pirelli atr's terrible in wet conditions? I've been a truck owner for more than 20 years so I understand what to expect but after only 4k miles on my new fx4 I'm seriously considering buying new tires.
I have them on my 2007 FX4 and haven't liked them the entire time. I've got good life out of them 70,000kms (around 43,000 miles) so far and I'm just now looking for replacements. I found them horrible in the wet, they hydroplane easy and terrible in the snow and ice. It's funny though, I was just in the tire shop yesterday and the guy was trying to sell me the direct replacements, touting that it's the highest rated tire on the market. I just laughed, no thanks. He also explained that they had about 200 tires in stock so I can understand now why he was trying to push them so hard.
I see you have the FX4 - maybe the stiffer, off road suspension is the difference?
yeah that's why I asked, I want to be positive a different tire will be an improvement before I spend the money. I love the truck except for the wet weather traction. Maybe the Tacoma I had previously was just that good in wet weather....but of course I did upgrade the oem tires to revos on that truck too

I have them on my Platinum and have no problem with them. Even went thru a wet and snowy Chicago winter last year and my tires never caused me a problem. In fact, with traction control, I seldom had to use 4x4.

I don't like the Pirelli's because of their tendency to flat spot while the truck is parked overnight. But the tires seem to perform very well otherwise - quiet on dry pavement, and good adhesion on wet pavements from my experience.
My wifes '08 Expy had the Scorpions on it, 20"... we got 38K miles out of them with consistant rotation and balancing. They wore evenly and within the mileage I had expected. Low profile tire on a big heavy SUV won't net great mileage no matter the brand. We never had any issues with wet weather traction. We had to drive on ice last year and they did as well as can be expected...ice is ice after all... I replaced them recently with Continental's... seem like a good tire, ride and handle well. We'll see on the life span... for the price, another 38K would be outstanding!
I have them on my '09 Platinum as well and I'm just as happy with them... No issues with wet weather traction. I've got about 4,500 miles on them, so time will tell on how they hold up on the F150...

I had them on an '08 lease I just returned. They were 20" tires and I can say i did not like them. Every morniing I got the "flat spot" issue. Traction was not a problem for me in either wet or snow, just the vibrations I got from the truck sitting overnight. I just took delivery of my 2010 Harley Davidson Edition with 22" tires and was very dissappointed to see that Ford put Scorpions on this too. And just on a personal note, I do not like the look of them either but thats just my own opinion. I hate to say it but I cant wait to have to replace them

seems to be hit or miss whether people like them or not. I'll find out this winter how mine do. Haven't noticed any problems in rain/wet weather yet. Actually didn't Consumer Reports recently rate these same tires as one of their best picks for light truck/suv tires?
i have them on mine 7500 miles no issues no flat spotting or hydroplaning and nice ride i keep them about 36 psi front and back i don't think they would be worth a darn for any type of off road use or snow but in so. cal there ok
The service director at my local dealership told me that they had problems with these tires on some of the '09s, but Pirelli corrected design on the later builds. I' let you know in a couple weeks when I get my new Lariat. If you're having trouble with them go to dealer and complain LOUDLY.
