Ambient Temperature Sensor Location?

Does anyone know where the thermometer is located? It doesn't appear to mention it in the manual. It only seems to be accurate first thing in the morning. My other car is accurate as long as the vehicle is moving above 20 mph (and not getting heat soaked with engine heat) but the F-150 seems to always read high once the engine is warm, even if I keep it moving.

I have a 2010 SuperCab XLT.

it won't read higher or lower when your moving, that's no longer ambient temp, it may rise or fall a degree or two after you first start moving but that's it. it will read the outside air temp so it doesn't sound like you have a problem.

and it is to the left of the hood latch at the front of the truck.

I saw there is a little thermocoupler sticking out of the bundle of wiring by the front hood latch but I never dreamed that would be the "ambient" temp sensor because of it's proximity to engine heat.

It would have been better to install it in one of the sideview mirrors.

Is that really what it does? I guess I should test it with a hair dryer.

Its location is in the perfect place. No engine heat will effect it there.

Oustide mirror location no good: is not ambient air there with sunlight on it really heating it up.

Also, if you try the hair dryer thing, and the external temp becomes higher than the present display (which you would be doing), and the vehicle is not moving, the display will only update every 20 minutes. This is to prevent heat from the engine compartment affecting the accuracy of the display, like in a stopped vehicle.

If the temp is dropping the display updates quickly.

If vehicle moving > 25 mph and temp is rising, the display updates every 20 seconds.

I got this from the Workshop Manual, 412-00-4.

Thanks

Oh no problem shotty: eBay. The Worshop Manual, Vol. 1-2 was $149. Then later, on eBay I found the Wiring Diagrams for $22.

Vol 1-2 do have a lot of electrical stuff, but the wiring diagrams book is the one with the graphics and the wiring colors etc etc.

All three make a good looking pile 6" high.

Just got to keep looking on there, it is hit or miss on what is available at any one time, but eBay is still a great place for such.

Here is a DVD for the 2009's on there now:

Good luck.

Thanks John.

I looked at the DVD and at $73 it's a really good deal (pirate software?), but this scared me off:

****These DVD's are date sensitive so to get this to work on your PC, you must change your PC Date, to month/year DVD was produced.

I'll keep looking for hard copy manuals.
