Slipped on side steps

Step bars frosted overnight and when I went to get into the truck at 5am I slipped and almost got seriously injured. Wondering if grip tape would be the best solution? Or does anyone have any other suggestions.

thanks

Grip tape should help. You could coat them with Line-X instead... My old step bars would always be extremely slippery after getting a coat of Armorall.

Just for that reason i stopped coating them. Try Meg's natural shine on the step bars if they are black and plastic. Works great!

I put armorall on mine once and when my wife got out she slipped off and went all the way to the ground. Didn't get hurt but nearly died of laughter

Exclamation

Just get a Platinum. That way they fold in, no need to ever treat them.

On my other 150's I used to leave the area on my running boards where someone might step untreated, because as stated, they'd get damn slippery, and I didn't want to hurt myself or someone else. FWIW, I don't treat any of the black plastic bits on my '09. I think they will last longer without the stuff that supposedly treats them but seems to make them fade faster than they would naturally.

Although I will say, I thought my grandfather was gunna fall and break his legs or something when he got out of my platinum. He flung the door open and immediately started to get out, while the boards were just descending. He got all tripped up and barely hung on to the seat and grab handle to stay from going flopping to the ground in a painful way for someone his age. I was shocked at how fast he jumped out of the truck, not waiting even a second or two since that's all it takes for the boards to lower. Scared the crap outta me, thought he was going down for sure. Never seen that happed again with anyone else, just him.

Grip tape, Line-X, Herculiner, anything grippy and black. Lucky you weren't hurt, wouldn't have been enjoyable slipping like that.

The Plat's have the Amp Power Step on them... they're about $1100, but way cool!

Sorry to hear about that. I slipped on the side step on my old Pathfinder one time and bruised the hell out of my left shin.

It probably wouldn't be too difficult to have a handle fabricated (maybe even use a Ford handle) and install one yourself?

I would do it myself but if I recall there is a portion of the side curtain airbag in the "A" pillar, please correct me if I am wrong? I don't want to mess with it and have the computer nagging me.

I hear ya. I couldn't tell ya on the 09+ though, that's something I've never looked into. Someone in the know will chime in I'm sure.

I bought my 2010 Screw earlier last month, and had surgery on my right shoulder 2 weeks later. Without a grab-bar or step-bars, I had to take a running leap to get into the truck.
