Does anyone know the part number? Tried the local dealer today - they were confused.

Ford Part is 9L3Z9943121A - Ordered it today - $64.49 inc tax - really looking forward to having a flat tailgate again! And my bedrug laying flat.

Thanks for the info. I'll be ordering mine tomorrow. I'm glad this thread came up because I was hating the bar and the buldge.

Took off the handle and added the standard panel today....SO much better. Bedrug looks and lays flat. Can sit on the tailgate. Looks really so much more in line with the rest of the truck in terms of quality.

If any of you with a non-step want a stripper pole and all the peices....we could work a deal.....

Nice mod. Sucks to use the tailgate for "tailgating" and have to try to sit on that crazy contraption integrated into the tailgate.

Thanks - I just never liked the way the plastic looked - seemed cheaper than the rest of the truck - and with the standard Bedrug it was just lumpy.

Would like to see a pic of the new made-to-fit bedrug if someone has that, but am very happy I made this mod - at the end of the day I want to sit or set something on the tailgate way more often than the odd time I need to step up into the bed, and even then I don't see needing the stripper pole. I simply hated the plastic and lumpy tailgate.

Hmmm, anybody worked it the other way around...with a stock normal tailgate to adding just the step. I would like to have the step, but the pole can go. Does it just pop in there, or is there more to it?

I am not sure that you can add the step, and if you could, from what the dealer said about the price it wouldn't be worth it.

Is the panel plastic (like a liner) or metal? I took the handle (and bracket) off last night and want to put a flat panel back on, but noticed a lot of access holes on the inside of the tailgate. Not sure if the non-step models have those.

Actually, spouse wants to remove the step too because things keep getting stuck in in (i.e. gravel) and it looks doable. Was thinking of just buying a cap from a regular tailgate to fit over it after the step is removed.

Had a posting running on craigslist asking if anyone wanted to do a straight across trade for a regular white non-step tailgate. No takers here in the SF Bay area.

The panel is metal. Leaves a flat tailgate like a non-step - but you will have the step itself at the lip. No gaps or holes left on the backside of the tailgate to speak of. Panel came painted flat black from the factory.
