Tire pressure
Tire pressure
Hey all,
I put some new wheels and tires on my 2009 f150, and didnt even think about moving the TPMS sensors over. I dont really care about making the TPMS work, but the warning light is driving me nuts. Is there any way to shut it off?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure on shutting them off. But if it were me, I would take the time to get them put back on. It has saved my butt more than one time. Once I was going 85mph through South Dakota and my light came on in my lifted big tired truck. I pulled over to the next gas station (which was right next to a tire shop) and I cracked a valve stem some how. Had it fixed without issue or causing any further damage. Had I not had the TPMS working properly I could have blown out the tire and god knows where that owuld have taken me, or on the best case scenario, I would have trashed my brand new $300/pc tire I had just put on. I have learned to love them. When I transferred them over to my new rims on my last truck I just used some big zip ties to hold them in. They are adhesive so some extent, the bands from Ford are like $90, screw that.

Thanks a lot for the adivce mrpositraction... you are probably right. Is it a lot of work to switch them over? Do you think a local garage can do it for me?
wrench007 - i dont have the dvd repair manual, so i cant realy comment on that

Yeah, they will have to take the tires off, or at least seperate the bead and take the tire half off (but once you are that far it is just as east to take them all the way off). I used long zip ties (had to use two). Position the sensor so it is 180deg from the valve stem (Ford put them there, more for the technician knows where they are when removing a tire so they don't damage the sensor). If they mark the tire they shouldn't have to rebalance, I would guess it would cost $20 or so if the tire guys knows what he is doing.

Dude the 2009 F150s don't use bands anymore. They use a sensor mounted to the valve stem. You can have the sensors swapped to your new wheels. You will have to order a set of new valve stems as the old ones can't be reused. I think Tasca has the stems for like $8. Any reputable tire shop should be able to take care of it for you. Just be careful I swapped my 22's off my old truck to my 2009 and the dealership chipped up my wheels installing the new stems and now I am having to figure out what they are gonna do to fix it. I would recommend using a shop that deals with aftermarket wheels alot.
