2011 EcoBoost - As useless as new Taurus EcoBoost? Stay tuned!

It's only Dec. 09, I bet it won't be until closer to mid-year 2010 before we maybe hear what the new engine lineup will be, especially in regards to specifis like what the EcoBoost will actually do for the F150 (HP/MPG/etc...). By then we'll probably also hear rumblings of spy photos and such of the 2012, if in fact they do remodel it every 3 years now.

I'm very eager to hear, especially after seeing that it did nothing for the Taurus except give it more HP with the same MPG as before (17MPG). Dissapointing to say the least. I've been holding off doing any mods to my '09 in the thought that I will trade for a 2011 w/ EcoBoost and make that my permanent truck for a long time since I have the goal of buying a house at some point soon now. I thought the '09 with NAV would finally have everything I wanted, but the Eco got me excited for some decent MPG's so I've been waiting to hear what it'll do. But now I'm worried it will fail to deliver any MPG improvement, just as it's failing to do currently in the new Taurus.

First off I think you took that comment out of context.

Re Taurus: How is that disapointing? It gets much more power with the same MPG. Say that outloud a few times and tell me thats disapointing?

Ford has said the EB will get 25% better mpg than a 5.4L. And will low its doors off.

The 2011s are scheduled to start production @ mid Nov 2010. We know that. Could be subject ot change, but thats what we know now.

Lol, nothing but more HP with the same MPG. That's pretty much the best engine option ever fr any vehicle. You apparently don't know the history of the SHO and why the EcoBoost engine MAKES that car.

Again, seriously doubt the Ecoboost engine makes it into an F150. Would be a waste as trucks like that don't run in an RPM range high enough to take advantage of it. They may come out with a direct injection engine, but not that one.

for now.

I would expect this to be made available in high end models very soon (Platinum, Harley, maybe Lariat)

EB is confirmed for F150s. Media types have driven it. Will be @ 400/400. THis is not up for debate. Starting 4th quarter next year. Look up torque "curve" on a EB and tell me it needs high rpm.

the taurus sho is not a "value" car .. you don't buy the sho if you are conserned with mpg's . YOu buy a smaller engine not a performance sedan... I for one love that car and would own one except I love my manual tranny.
I don't know if we will see a debut this coming week in la or not.. they may not want to take any spot light off the fiesta debut..( if that gets a EB I will likely trade in my new 2010 fusion for it). but the facts we know are they aren't going to start production of the 2011 f150 till very late in 2010. that is extremely weird for ford. makes me think there is something coming up. and my guess is new drive train options.. it seems ford is trying to do some changes every 2 years or so instead of waiting for a complete redesign to launch them all at once.

Well I wouldn't call it not a "value" car necessarily as you get a lot for the price, but they aren't meant to compete with the rest of the Taurus' competitors. They are aimed at the people driving 5-series BMW's, Pontiac G8's, Maximas, etc. You get a sport sedan with a nicer appearance and nicer interior. Not a bad value, but if they keep going up in price they will price themselves out of the market. I had a 91 SHO and loved that thing despite it being a Taurus. I outran many stock 5.0 Stangs with it, all with air-lumbar/side bolsters, premium sound, and a Yamaha v6!

Historically Ford has used the NAIAS @ Detroit Rock City or Chcago for any truck debuts or big news. (also Texas state fair) LA ain't truck central.

You obviously don't know anything about the EB engines. They don't have a torque 'curve'. It is a torque plateau running from about 1500 to 5000. To me, that screams truck engine!

Oh, and as Power Kid said, EB WILL be in the F150.

Likes/dislikes 2010 Fusion?

desratt, how do you like the Fusion? I was considering trading in my truck for one of the hybrid versions... but it'd be so hard to go from driving a huge F-150 since 1996 to a little car. But it gets awesome MPG, and it's a nice car from what I've seen, even got Motor Trend car of 2010. And I figure if I stick myself with a car I won't have that crazy urge to upgrade every time a new F150 comes out which costs way more than I NEED to spend, but it's like, I've just GOT to have the newest version all the time.

Oh, and I think the new Taurus is a sweet ride, no doubt. Nice looking, tons of gadgets, etc. Wish the Fusion had some of the cool gadgets it has. I was only dissapointed in the Eco MPG, nothing else about it to be sure, very nice car. I agree that anyone wanting more HP will be happy with the Eco for what it does, but my F150 has plenty of HP, just want better MPG. Thought that's what the Eco was going to do. If it just does more HP for same MPG, that's cool; just not what I was hoping for is all.

Did your ENCS rep give you the dates you used above or do you have another source for this information? Just trying to figure out what the real deal is since it seems we've been told conflicting info. Thanks!
Sorry, just saw your question......The order date of Dec.1st was told to me by my ENCS rep back in Oct., then Ford officially announced it in early November. There's a big debate going on over on the Raptor forum right now about how some have ordered a 6.2 before this date. They are just orders though, the 6.2 order bank was not officially open yet, so they're (I being one of them also) just orders waiting to be filled. However, as of the past couple of days, Ford keeps telling people that the order bank for the 6.2 is still not open and there's talk of a delay at the moment. One guy said that his dealer told him that the 6.2 was infact showing and available as an option now and ordered it....and he also got a hard copy to prove it. He's the only one so far though as everyone else contacted their dealer and were told that, while showing up in the system now, the 6.2 is still not open yet. The Feb. time frame for actually hitting the lots was also confirmed by Ford but, just like word of the 6.2 ordering delay, will remain in question. I emailed ENCS about it a couple of days ago but haven't heard back yet. "Winter of 2010" is what has always been said and Feb. falls right in that time frame. As for the 5.4 being the only eng. you can order till mid 2010, I'm pretty sure he's mistaken on that one, I had to educate my rep on the Raptor as well and then he confirmed everything I told him, lol.
