Factory order status for new FX4
Factory order status for new FX4
Hello from a soon-to-be first time truck owner.
I think my factory-ordered FX4 is tentatively scheduled to be built this week. I checked this morning and the window sticker now displays when I look it up at http://services.forddirect.fordvehic...icker.pdf?vin= web site. Before today it would just say the window sticker could not be retrieved.
Is there anyplace I can check online to see when the vehicle is actually built, when it ships, etc?
I'm anxious to track the progress of the truck but I don't want to be a big pest to the sales manager at the Ford dealership.
Thanks.
Rick

On the top of the window sticker, next to the blend number, there is a number 22009...... that is the proposed build date. If it is today it would be 220091109. Basically it should get built during the week of the date listed. Once it hits the gate at the fatory it could take a day or two to get loaded. Once it is loaded on the rail car or truck your dealer can track it by VIN through the carrier. If I was guessitmating, and depending on if it was built in DTP or KCAP you should get it in a week to 10 days after its built considering your location.

My excitement in receiving this truck has been somewhat tempered. One week ago my senior software engineer position was eliminated from my employer of 5+ years so I am now actively looking for a new job. It's the first time I've ever been downsized.
The only good thing is that the FX4 has not yet arrived so I have not already taken delivery of it. If I don't become re-employed in the next few weeks the dealership will refund my deposit and cancel the deal. They're being very, very good about this whole situation. I'm still hoping I can make all of this work out but it's a tough market right now. I may end up driving my 2004 Mustang GT through another Green Bay winter. I've done it for the past five winters so it's not the end of the world but still, I'm bummed! If I end up not being to take delivery of this truck I'll forever wonder if each Vermillion Red FX4 I see is "my" truck.

Well, the 2010 FX4 I ordered the middle of October has arrived at the dealership. I went in to look at it and talk to the manager about the whole situation. I think it's a nice truck, see http://services.forddirect.fordvehic...FW1EV2AFA73761.
The manager said they'll hold on to the truck for me until the end of the month and if I'm still not able to take delivery by then, they'll offer it up for general sale. It really sucks but I think the dealership is being fair. I told them that if they had a sure thing selling it before that time to go ahead and sell it because I'm not too optimistic we'll be able able to move ahead with the deal now.
I have a few promising leads on some contract work but nothing definite yet. Taking care of my wife and daughters comes first, then the mortgage, then less important things like the truck. If we can't get this specific truck we'll re-load and try it again when everything is back on track again. I just need to break it to my Mustang that he's probably going to need to struggle through another northeast Wisconsin winter.

Wow that has nice specs. I hope your situation improves and you can pick that bad boy up. Good luck.

You've got your priorities in order. The new truck can wait for another day. Year by year they keep getting better so keep a positive attitude about everything and good luck with the job search. Judging by the sticker, it would have been an awesome truck. Your time will come.
It's been a stressful 3 weeks but I think everything is starting to turn out great. I've had a whirlwind of phone interviews and in-person interviews for various full time software engineering/consulting jobs and shorter-term (2-6 month) contracts. I've decided to accept an offer made to me on Friday after a 2 hour technical interview (which followed a 3 hour panel interview). Man, those were a lot of fun. Let's see, better pay than the last job, paid overtime, better benefits, a strong team to work with and learn from, etc. Start date is in the next week or so. All of this leads to...
We are planning on moving ahead with the FX4 purchase. We have a long term relationship with our bank and excellent credit history so we're told it's not a problem. We went to the dealership that has "our" truck and talked to the manager to bring him up to date. He threw us the keys to the FX4 and told us to take it out for a good drive, especially since my wife and kids were with me. He knew what he was doing, my wife and kids love this truck. We drove it to our home and parked it in the garage beside my Mustang. My wife's Mountaineer was still at the dealership. All I can say is the truck looks HUGE in our garage and makes my Mustang look like a toy car.
It's going to take me some time to get used to driving the truck but man does it drive nice. The only remotely negative thing was how small and hard to see the reverse camera's image is in the rear view mirror. I know it's a small mirror and I may have been expecting too much from the camera. It was bright outside and even with the truck windows closed the image was very hard to see. Not sure if the image contrast or brightness can be adjusted or not, I've not yet studied that part of it. I immediately started wondering about locating a spot to put a small screen and somehow hook it up to the backup camera. In due time.
I took a lot of pictures of the FX4 when I had it at home on Saturday but I'm not uploading any until it is officially ours. Just in case.

I'm not too superstitious so I figured I'd upload a few of the 40+ pictures I took on Saturday and attempt to show them in this thread. Even if the job and truck deal unexpectedly fall through for some reason at least there will be a few more pictures of a nice truck. This is the ordered FX4 from the window sticker link earlier in this thread. I hope to hear today from the bank on how and when the deal can proceed. The FX4 decals are the first things to go once this truck is home for good. Then I need to find some nice running boards so the girls don't hurt themselves getting in or out. I saw some really nice flat 6" chrome step bars on a 2010 Lariat on Saturday but I think they're about $600 so I doubt those will be the ones. Now, back to my continuing training...

Good news. We took delivery of the FX4 this afternoon. I had the dealer remove the FX4 stickers before we picked it up. As a special treat for our daughters we decided to stop on the way home and pick up some KFC for dinner. We made sure to have my wife bring it home in her Mountaineer instead of the brand new FX4 so it did not smell like chicken!
Now it's time to find a good place to buy a BakFlip G2 or HD, a BedRug and some nice running boards.
I'll post a few more pictures in a new thread since the truck is now officially ours. Well, the bank owns most of it right now but still...
Thanks for the encouragment and kind words over the past few trying weeks. You sure do make a stranger / newbie feel welcome.
