Mud flaps

I've never owned a truck but the dealer is sending out a driver today to pick up my 2010 F150 platinum from another dealer. It should be here in a couple hours.

We are going over the usual after-market-dealer-trying-to-sell-more-stuff thing at the moment.

My plans were to get the dealer undercoating/paint/upholstery/leather protection, warranty and maybe even the service plan. After market I was going to get Linex bed liner, tonneau cover and remote start.

What I didn't consider was mud flaps. I notice on most pictures here not many people have mudflaps. Since trucks ride a little higher than cars, does the paint get chipped behind the wheels a lot without mudflaps?

I'm not an offroader, farmer or oil worker but occasionally I will take it into a field or on gravel roads.

Talking

I always get mud flaps to keep the mud and snow from the paint and be nice to the guy behind you. I just got back from working at a rally [www.rallynewyork.com ] and again tomorrow then it's bath time after rain on dirt roads ! I drove my old one for that since the new one is still a virgin ! Then the old one is up for sale .

Why not consider 3M film along the rocker panels.

On a side note, I wouldn't buy the extended warranty nor the service plan from the dealer as you can buy them direct from Ford online for a good deal cheaper (unless you're already getting them for a good price as part of the deal).

I just put Husky mud flaps on my 09'. I didn't have them on my previous truck and did get chips in the paint near the bottom of fender nothing major. Not to mention I live in New England so they sand and salt in the winter.

Thumbs up Absolutely!

I always get mud flaps. Not only does it help protect your paint, it's also considerate to those behind you.

On a side note, if you are getting a Platinum, rear mud flaps also help to keep your chrome tip exhaust from getting chipped.

i have the husky mud flaps on front and back of my truck and they keep a lot of water from getting on the sides of truck and keep the gravel from pitting paint and they are very easy to install maybe 30 min at the most.

A little off the topic but I never get the interior protection package. I worked in an interiors factory for 30 years and all of the rolled goods that we received were already treated with Scotchguard or similar products before they were cut, sewn and assembled into finished interior parts. Might save you a little $$.

what plan i did go with was the service plan. i did my share of doing my own oil changes and got tired of doing it everything else. so when something maintenanced wise had to be done, the dealer covers it. i like it
