Traction Control Possible Problem

I noticed that the light on the dash (car sliding) was on. I do not blieve I turned the traction control off (button in the midle of emrgency lights and passenger air bag). I tried to turn it on and it would not. I stopped the truck and turned it off. When I started it up again I then turned the traction control on. Is this a possible problem or am I doing something wrong?

Onr other question, does the light on the dash (traction control) go on when it is working (ie you are slipping).

Thanks

Do you have an Owner's Manual?

in normal drive the light on the dash board should be off (not displayed). If the truck feels the need to engage the TC in special driving conditions then it will and the light would come on. If you press the button for more than five seconds then you are turning the feature off.

Does that help?

Short time lurker, new poster.

I Bought a 09 STX a few months back and was driving down the road when I noticed the TC light come on. Did the same thing as TheBlackPearl did, yes I read the manual also. Called my dealer and they told me that it could be a sensor etc and to schedule a service visit. They also said that it wouldn’t hurt to drive it short term. The TC light never came on the rest of the weekend. Called the dealer on Monday and talked to the service manager, he said to bring it in and they can check the codes. The TC light didn’t come on the rest of that week. We cancelled the appt. It has gone on a few more times but the service manager said they will look at it during my first service visit.

Most vehicles flash a light when TC/ESC are active. If the light is on all the time and you did not press the disable button, then there is a fault with the system and it should be serviced.

You words are not clear. Turn what on or off, engine or TCS? TC is on by default every time you change the key from off to run. No lights = TC enabled, ready to reduce engine torque and/or apply brakes to limit wheel slip during acceleration.

Good answer, and like Real said, "Do you have a manual?" This is the first time I read the manual cover to cover on a new vehicle and addressed many features I wanted to know. The only thing that got me was SYNC. Took a few hours to figure that out. That's probably why my MPG is so bad. Sitting in my truck idling with pages I printed out, figuring it all out. But, you have to read at times to figure things out, simple.

I was bombing down a dirt road the other day and the traction control light was blinking like crazy as I went over the ruts. when I came off the dirt road, I noticed my traction light was staying on, so I hit the button and nothing changed. I shut the truck off and then started it back up and it worked fine. I thought I must have rattled something for a loop by causing it to activate so often during the spin down the dirt road.

Damn, Thanks for the laugh! Looking back when a youngster I did crazy things like that. Can't believe I'm still alive to be honest. But "bombing down a dirt road" just set me free and had a good laugh because I did that many times. But in old 4x4's Like 1970-1975.

the traction control adds a whole new level of fun to it - just make sure you've got shallow ditches so you only risk getting stuck if you go off the road
