Adding Cooled Seats to Lariat?

I'm looking into a Lariat SuperCab and I want the split bench seat so that I can replace the center section with an XLT floor console as I don't want the floor shifter and need a place to mount my CB and Ham gear.

I'd really like to be able to get cooled seats with the bench, but you can't from the factory. Is it possible to buy the needed internal seat parts and climate control switch panel to add them?

Do the seats come with perforated leather? If not you would need that also.

I haven't compared the leather on heated only to heated and cooled, but you'd think they'd use the same covers to save money. If not, easy fix with a set of covers.

First off I could be wrong,

But i do think the perf leather is specific to the dual heat/cool seats. All the heat only seats i saw were non-perf leather and therefore i chose my lariat over the FX4 they had on the lot .

Anything is possible.... but I DOUBT it's worth what it would cost to do. I use mine but really looking back, they are the most useless part of the truck.

If I knew it could be done with factory parts I could put a list together to see what it would end up costing. Down here in Texas when it's 110° with an 85° dew point they'd sure be welcome.

OcciferGuzman ... i bet if you left cozy little NC and came visit us down here in Texas int he middle of july i bet you would appreciate those cooled seats a helluva lot more than you do now.

As far as the original question ... can it be done. Sure anything is possible BUT cost wise it would probably be outrageous and i wouldnt even attempt it.

Good Luck if you pursue w/ this and let us know how it turns out

I don't care so much about the cooled seats, I just wish mine were heated.

Any way to just add that? I guess I could just get a remote start to remedy that though.

the cooled seats are ok, but just mainly cool your butt. Would be nice if it cooled your back better.

Floor shifter console (which gives you cooled seats): Couldn't you mount your gear inside the center console or on the side of the console? There's now a small indent/compartment on the outside/passenger side of the console.

I tried them out this Summer and they felt great, especially after sitting in a truck without them for a while.

There's lots of room inside, but in order to use the radios you'd have to have the armrest up and look at an awkward angle while driving. Mounting stuff to the outside is a no go for me as I think it looks horrid, especially in a $40,000 luxury truck.

The XLT console makes it perfect for mounting a CB radio on the front and a Ham radio control head under the USB/AUX input.

Not trying to get into a pissing match but the temps in NC vary from 100+ down to single digits so I really do know all about heated and cooled seats but once you've sat on the seat for a minute or two... your body is already aclimated. And our climate unfort. is very humid

Glad you guys get use out of them though...I only turn them on to freak people out that dont know I have that feature in the truck

Three things. One - the heated only seat uses a resistive type element in the seat itself. The heated/cooled seats use a Thermoelectric Device (TED) to provide heating and cooling and is not part of the seat more of the seat base.

Two - When the TED device operates, for example in cooling mode, the opposite side of the device gives off heat. In about 45 minutes or so, the cooling effect is overriden by the temp given out by the device. When the TED provides heat, it is more efficient and will always override the opposite side of the device.

To upgrade, you would new console switches, wiring, TED module, seat climate module (exchanges air with the TED and the seat), and upgraded seats. Also, the seat fan will make a noise in the cabin when operating.

I wish they'd offer heated/cooled bench seating. Oh well, I can keep living without it I guess.

Thanks for the info.

thank you for the info! makes more sense to me now i always thought that with time effect of cooled seats diminishes but i thought that is just me getting used to it... lol
also it makes me wonder why cooled seats on f-150 are so noisy... i know on more expensive cars you can't even hear the fan... my guess is cheaper components?

Living in Montana, the last thing I would want is cooled seats. But I use the heat just about every time I pop my butt down. I think that button is going to be the first to fail, I use it all the time.
