USB 2 question

Just have a quick question on using the USB 2. I have installed it in my center console and it works good. My question is if there is a way to manually select it like when you scroll through between line in, bluetooth device and usb or do I have to use the sync voice activation every time?

This is only once I have disconnected it. If I leave it connected all the time I can shuffle between sirius and USB 2 and i don't have to say "USB2" - only once I have disconnected and reconnected my ipod nano.

I think if it's there and recognized by the head unit, you can push the media button on the steering wheel or if you feel like reaching, push AUX, then hit menu and cycle through until you can select an input, the USB 2 option should be there. I have had issues before where it didn't see it but if I used SYNC and voice commanded it, it found it no problem.

Thats the thing I can use sync voice activation every time and it works every time. However if I hit AUX and scroll through USB2 never shows up and USB says its empty (which it is). I might try taking the tray off and disconnecting and reconnecting the cable.

I can't choose USB2 without using the voice activation either once my ipod has been unplugged and reconnected.

I'm not sure that the USB2 was ever intended to be used like we are using it so choosing that input source through the menu was not designed in. That's just my guess......for what it's worth.

If you don't use the in dash USB regularly, why not just switch the inputs in the back of the unit so what is now USB2 becomes USB and vice versa?

The regular usb and the usb2 ports are actually just a little bit different so the stock cable that is in the usb port will not fit in the usb 2 port.

Its not that big of deal if I have to use the sync voice command to get usb 2, I was just curious if others had to do the same. It's only when I unplug my ipod so its only about once a week.

I don't unplug mine unless I want to add music to it. I am pretty happy with voice commands.

Odd, mine lets me scroll the various inputs, including USB2, by manually pushing the source button on the upper right of the touch screen. Maybe it's because I'm not using it with an IPod, but with a USB drive?

USB 2?? Is this a kit from Ford? I absolutely want to add this to my platinum - I currently have the wire out the front of the center console to the dash, and thought this was an unbelievable oversight! (Or is it already the console and I just don't see it?

You have to take off the tray on top of the dash to access the USB2 port. It is a mini-USB port.

Greaatttt....another truck project to add to the list! :-)

Have to find a good panel mount and figure out where to put it in the center console - clearly better than running the cable out to the dash.

There's a how-to for running the USB2 to the glove box. That's what I did. Works great! Here it is: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...o-console.html

I thought there was one for running it to the console (couldn't find it), but I think some folks were having problems with it due to cheap cabling and longer cable runs.

I have no USB2 option in my menu. I dont have nav, just single CD in my XLT. When I do say USB2 it says nothing is connected even though my hard disk in the glove box has power. Is there anything special I need to do? I had a mini USB cable already, I dont think you need anything special right? I have a WD Passport 250GB disk.
