Heat resistant rubber?

I finally figured out why my exhaust is rattling. It's vibrating against the heat shield on my spare tire. Is there anything I can use to alleviate that?...maybe stick something in between?...like heat resistant rubber...if there is such a thing.

If you can't bend the shield you could use a piece of silicon hose, radiator hose, or fuel line hose.

Can you take the shield off and line-x it?

Do you think that would muffle the vibration enough?

For what they charge for that stuff you could have a new exhaust system built and ceramic coated inside and out.

Sorry a little bitter....I got my bed Line-x'ed yesterday. My a-hole still hurts.

It might. Or you can get a can of spray on underbody coating. That stuff is a little more rubbery. Not sure how it handles up to heat though.

The line-x guy I used to go to said it takes a certain amount of formula to spray a bed. Depending on the size of the bed they're spraying, they might have a little left over. As small as that shield is, I'm sure you could get them to hit it with whatever leftover stuff they have. I remember one time I was going to see if he would spray something small for me, and he said he could do it with whatever leftover batch he had from a job for free.

I'm sure there is a cheap fix.

Line-X..definitely not unless you like throwing money away.

Wrap it up till it touches your heat shield on your spare tire.

Don't waste your money on trying to find something to put on the pipe or the shield. Just remove the heat shield and be done with it. As long as you have an inch or so of space between the pipe and the tire you'll be fine.

If it were my truck I would have the exhaust bent away from the tire. DO NOT remove the heat shield! It's there for a damn good reason......Check out this thread.
