New 2009 FX4 Owner
Hey everyone. I'm a Ford guy for life, still have my '66 mustang I bought when I turned 16. Have had 2 other F150's and just bought my 3rd. 2009 FX4, picked up yesterday from Mossy Ford in PB here in San Diego.
I've been looking for over a month for a great full size truck to tow my wakeboard boat (2008 Calabria Pro-V), and settled on the F1 for its 11,000lb capacity, even though I'm no where near that.
I got this truck for a ridiculous price, as the sticker price made me not even consider it. There were multiple rebates going on, and I ended up getting it for the same price that the 2wd tundra bone stock was going to cost me. Its fully loaded, leather, sync, running boards, step boards on the bed, tailgate step, and the full bed cargo management system.
Apparently I can't post any attachments.
A few things I've noticed:
I've never had a new 4x4 truck before, I'm sure its normal to ride a little rough, right?
Also, is first gear super low on these things? I notice when rolling down the hill from my driveway before accelerating, you can hear the engine wind up before it shifts. Is this normal?
Still getting used to everything, but I'm stoked!

Welcome. I just got a white 2009 FX4 a couple of weeks ago. You'll love it. Put some pictures up in the photo gallery on this site, and then you can pull them into you posts. It took me a while to figure out how to do it. Apparently nobody is allowed to load attachments.
Remember that the FX4 comes with off road shocks and it is a 4X4. Compared to my 06 XLT 4X4, my 2009 FX4 rides like a dream. I guess it depends what you're used too.
Congrats and post some pics when you get a chance.

Thanks hemigod. Picture your truck, but black. haha
Do you notice that the first gear seems unusually low? It just seems to be geared really low, and I read that it is significantly more than previous years. I notice this when slowly accelerating, and when braking just before I stop, it seems like it downshifts to first and jerks a bit.
Maybe I'm just critical since I'm not used to this truck yet.

The FX4 doesn't have different shocks than the rest of the line - the locking rear differential is the only mechanical difference. The old FX4 package for the pre-2009 F-150's did add upgraded (Rancho?) shocks but that's not the case anymore.
As far as your rough 2-1 downshift, there is a much-discussed TSB that may be related to your problem: http://www.scribd.com/doc/17120405/tsb091105

Congrats on getting the great deal. Always a great feeling. In about 70 days I will be in my new loaded FX4 SC. It will be just like Christmas. Well, OK, it will be Christmas.
The only thing better than reuniting with the wife and kids after a long military deployment is reuniting with family and coming home to a new F-150.
That has the making of a good commercial.
I love the dancing banana by the way.

and this is from the 2009 F-150 brochure:
20" 6-spoke machined-aluminum wheels – Includes
sport-tuned shocks (n/a with Regular Cab 126" WB or
SuperCab 133" WB)
It is an option on the FX4 and Lariat.
(2010 brochure says the same thing)

Not to hijack the thread, but my window sticker says that the truck comes with off road shocks, standard. Most 09 FX4 window stickers I have seen say that. Here's one (not mine)...
