Max Tow package

Anyone with a Max Tow package that can answer a few questions:

Does the truck sit any higher with it?
How's the ride quality?
Does it seem like it makes much different with towing or hauling?

Thanks. Trying to decide wether to get it on an XLT Screw 4x4 or stay with the regular tow and a 3.55ls gear.

1)no

2)excellent

3)it will help with heavier loads if its ever needed you get the integrated trailer control system, plus the upgraded cooling, heavier rear suspension.

1. It's possible, if you got the 18" wheels which don't get the big leaf springs, then you add a leaf, maybe 1/4" or less in rear height increase.

2. It rides like a 1/2 ton truck.

3. Cooling is the same on the Tow and max tow I believe, you only get revised steering ratio, different front eye busings and something else, i forget.

I would go with the 3.73LS rear axle.

I really want to get the Max Tow package - the only thing that's making me hesitate is that I don't want those massive mirrors. I want to put this thing in my garage next to the wife's Ford Flex. The extra width from those mirrors (someone told me 5 extra inches on each side) has me concerned.

How?....from the order guides you are forced to take the trailer tow mirrors with Max trailer tow package.

1 Not that I can tell
2 Like a caddy compared to my 06 (I also have 20's)
3-Have not towed with it yet but, you do get a 20:1 steering ratio w/ max tow which will help.

thats they way the dealer my dealer order it, i bought it off the lot.

but my trucks build date sept 2008, one of the first batches off the line so it may have been a option at first.

EDIT:

i just went to the www.ford.ca site and the trailer tow mirrors are a $160 option, not part of the max tow package and its the same for 2010.

oh, i forgot to thank you for the sig quote, its a first for me

At the USA site, doing "Build Your Own", there's no way to get the Max Tow Package without the mirrors. If you pick that package, then try to change the mirrors, it removes the package.

Seems to be how the 2010 Order Guide is laid out, too. I'll have to see what my dealer says.

I'd like the max tow and 3.73 but the order guide forces the chrome package in order to get it. So to add this package, the price increases almost $1K. Hard to believe some different springs allow a 1700 pound towing increase over the standard tow package.

it may do that on the site but at the dealer the price could change.

That's true, they are an 160 option. That's also how they are listed on my window sticker too but like FJC said if you just pick the mirrors online it forces you to take the max trailer tow package too and versus versa. You are the first I have heard to have Max trailer W/o the trailer tow mirrors.....maybe an (big) oversight at the factory?. Are they listed on your window sticker? If they are not, I would have to agree with you they since your truck was one of the very first, it could have been an option at first.

EDIT:
Here is from the 10' order guide, the mirrors are now an 0$ option, included in the max trailer tow package.

Manual-telescoping, heated side mirrors with power glass, integrated turn-signal indicators, security approach lamps and body-color skull caps. Available on FX4 and Lariat. Requires Max Trailer Tow Package. FX4 requires Luxury Package. Not available with King Ranch® or Platinum Packages.
Max trailer to package is now an 330.00 option. To add a little more confusion to it, it also says that they are not available with King Ranch or the Platinum but if you build it online you can select it......I know 09 plats got max trailer two.....so who knows.

O, for the sig quote, your welcome. First time I heard that!

see that's the thing on the Canadian site i can select the tow mirrors with out the max tow package. it doesn't force me to select anything. and the description for the tow mirrors on the Canadian site isn't the same for the mirror option as you posted.

and from what i remember i haven't looked at my sticker in awhile it just says, max tow. but i will digg it out and look again.
