2009 - 2014 F-150

No fuel filter

No fuel filter

Coming from an 05 I was used to changing the fuel filter every 3 oil changes. Don't get me wrong I wont miss it but WTF? How can they integrate a filter in the tank that will never need changing?

Is this a way to try an jack the average Joe a couple hundred bucks in a few years? Don't get me wrong if I ever have a problem out of warranty I will be doing the work myself but why do they make it so much work? Preventative maintenance never hurts anything.

That's not different than having to remove a dash to change out a burnt out bulb. It's called job security. My opinion.

I was reading the manual for the new rig when I learned of the fuel filter delete. I crawled under there and sure as ****, no filter. I read a little further and the manual says there is "lifetime" fluid but It should be flushed at 150k if I remember. I'll double check.

Well, that is lifetime for me, as I won't have the truck with that many miles on it. Once this beyatch starts nickle and diming me, it's gone.

Thats what I did with my 05. The trans went at 92,000. I put in a junkyard one with 37,000 on it and drove the rig for 3,000 more miles and decided I didn't like how it was shifting, that and it needed rotors/pads all around, tires, sparkplugs(I really didn't want to deal with that hedache, 5.4) and shocks. I ended up getting in a brand new 09 and dropping my payments $50 a month.

Glad I did a quick search instead of starting a new thread. With 42 miles on mine, I was thinking when I will change the oil/filter. You know what I mean, getting the first service done earlier than 7500. Then I started thinking fuel filter (where did I put my tool) then read more about it in the manual. Surprise! To my delight. But I'm concerned about the transmission fluid. When I was working, for a overnight delivery service, I probably shouldn't mention the name. I got in 12 Sprinters over about six month period that was basically designed by them with their specs. Anyway, the first generation was Freightliner/Mercedes. Mercedes provided the drive train. In-line 5 cylinder diesel and a transmission with no dip stick and was suppose to last XXX amount of miles, something like forever. The couriers knew two positions, Full throttle and brake hard. They put more miles on vehicles than I have ever seen before and soon the trans started rearing it's ugly head. The second summer in use, the trans started failing, everyone of them. After removing, the smell of the fluid could make vomit. Totally trashed. They warranty covered it and after changing, cleaning/flushing out everything, the new one had the same outcome A real POS trans. Come to think about it, the only major component that was worth a crap was the engine. So, I would be concerned for anyone towing with this design. Hope I'm wrong, but the experience I had was a nightmare.

My 06 civic doesnt have an exterior fuel filter either.. most newer vehicles are apparently integrating them.. whether or not this is better for the vehicle is yet to be determined I suppose.. but I've never heard of any problems with the Civic setup yet in the ricer forums.. I suppose as long as you're using decent fuel and maintain everything else it shouldn't really be an issue.

they more and more "life time" or "non-serviceable" things on cars, like ball joints and u-joints, fuel filters, all the stuff that should be checked often and lubed or stuff... just take a peek under your new(er) trucks and find a zerk fitting, it feels like everything is going to this nonserviceable stuff.
