2009 - 2014 F-150

new '09 1000 miles... 5% oil life... is this normal?

Arrow new '09 1000 miles... 5% oil life... is this normal?

so i got in my new 09 this morning and my in dash display shows oil life at 5% it has 1000 miles.... hmmm.... anyone else have this happen? dealership offers a free first oil change so no biggie, but after 1000 miles, just doesnt seem right.

how long have you had your truck?

also, you or someone else may have accidently messed with the buttons and reduced the oil change interval %, so that's why it might have came on for you so soon.

The oil life monitor on the dash is strictly based off of time and/or miles, whichever comes first. In your case, it is based on time. I think it's 6 months or 7500 miles, but I may be off.

I suspect your truck was sitting on the lot for a few months, especially if it has 1000 miles on it. I asked the dealership and they said that there were no actual sensors to monitor the oil life.

I would change the oil between 1 and 2k the first time...get that factory sludge from break in out of there. (JMHO)

I use to do that. Mine at 7500 the first time and now at 15000. I just put in good oil and use 98% efficient oil filters.
