New FX4...

Hi All,

I have placed a few posts, but never really introduced you to Round II. It’s a Black on Black Lux FX4 Screw 6.5’ bed with the two tone grey. We originally purchased a Silver FX4 in June, but it had bad factory paint and exchanged it for this one on July 10th.

This is my first Ford purchase (although Dad had a ’79 with the 390? while I was growing up) and other than the quality quibbles regarding the paint and the hard transmission shifting issues, I REALLY like the truck…even better with the black.

Quick question: I heave read several post regarding the TSB available for the trans computer, but have not had time to take it in yet for the brainwash. I have not seen any updates from anyone stating that this fix last for more than a week?

My question is: Has anyone had the update done and had any luck with “good” results?

Thanks,

RoundII

Congrats on the new FX4 - it's a beaut and I really like the interior on the FX4 - nice lux/sport combo!! I did have the transmission reflash a couple of months ago and it is running fine now - so for me it worked! The pic of your truck from the rear is a good advertisement for the Raptor taillight housing for darker F-150's...check out the Raptor tails that another member recently added and posted here in the last day or so...would look great on your FX4 too!!

Thanks Guys,

Originally we were going to buy a Lariat, but I liked the FX interior (faux carbon fiber instead of the wood grain), even if it does not have the cooling seats. The deciding factor though was the “stupid” design of the Lariat’s second row center seat…damn uncomfortable design and I have three kids. We have waited years to buy a truck, so we could take extended road trips with the trailer. There was no way I was gonna make one of the kids sit in that center seat for hours on end.

Tranny: Even after the truck is warm the initial 3 feet at every light is abrupt and stop-and-go traffic is down shifting to first is more entertaining that it should be. Towing the trailer increases the initial JERK issue x 10. With my work schedule and three vacations in the last month and a half there just has not been any time to get the ‘puter flashed. Now that our schedule will settle down…I will make an appointment.

The darker tail lights are “growing” on me, but I want to get the bed sprayed first. It is already getting pretty scratched up. Would like to level it out as well, but have no idea what this does to the towing characteristics of the truck or the longevity of the frontend? Ford must have placed the truk at an angle for a reason right? My current setup is perfectly level when hitched and it tows like a dream as is. We use to tow with a ’96 Landcruiser…can you imagine the difference!

BTW, I have not noticed any jerking with stopping and starting with mine....Get it re-flashed though....I know there is a TSB on it.

Also, the pitch in the truck is there for a reason, and you answered it yourself. when you are hooked up you sit level.

Yup, they could be brothers...

I see you have the 20s...how do you like them while you tow? (Making the assumption you do, since you got the larger mirrors.)

I wanted a little more meat on mine and went with the 18s...

Vibration when towing may have something to do with the two piece drive shaft with the 6.5ft SCrew . Looks like you have 6.5ft box right. Also reports that reflash will fix it.
