Painted reverse sensors (pics)

well I couldn't stand the look of the black reverse sensors on my white bumper. I noticed the sensors are painted on other cars and suv's, and I checked with the Ford parts dept. but the sensors do not come prepainted but rather they are paint to match. So I had my body shop guy paint them, he hooked me up, just $40 to paint the 2 outer sensors. They seem to work just fine when backing up. here's pics:

Did the paint shop paint them on the truck or did they remove, paint and then reinstall. Yes, Ford should paint match them on trucks so equipped. It's a shame they don't. Good move having it done.

thanks guys. he painted them right on the truck. we had a hard time trying to figure out the clips on the backside of them to actually remove them. He must have loosened them slightly and just taped off around them.

yes I agree they should already come painted to begin with, at least on the Lariat and upper models.

All that $$$$ for a Platinum you would think the blue oval guys would color match them!!

$40 well spent in my book!

SteveVFX4, 'Your body shop guy' - would this be the dealer that sold you your truck? I am wondering if this is something that a dealer would have their body shop do to make a sale. Seems they would if asked. $40 isn't much no matter who pays it. This would be something to ask for when buying a new truck.

Exclamation

Do this for us please, put your truck in reverse and have someone put there hand over one of the sensors that was painted. If it doesn't beep, 2 of your sensors are now dead. I use to do body work in the paint department. One of our painters painted reverse sensors, guess what, they stopped working. It was an expensive fix, I can tell you that.

That's interesting.

Assuming it does still work, the painted sensors are nicely done. Looks great!

hmm, they might actually be dead. I'll have to try a test again later, my wife was trying but holding our baby at the same time.

I don't care if they are, I'd rather have them painted, looks tons better. the inner 2 still work for sure and I have the backup camera too (both things I did not have on my last truck and I was able to back up just fine without hitting stuff).

oneinch, the guy is a local body shop that I've been using for almost 10 years now. I used to be into import tuner cars, so I had body kits, shaved emblems/keyholes, lots of stuff done in the past by him. So he doesn't mind doing this small stuff for me and he's cheap. Some shops don't even want to be bothered by painting small things, or they will try to charge you a high price.
