Question Anyone else 'lost' reverse?

This has happened to me a couple of times so far, but I can't duplicate it on demand. I'll start up the truck, drop it into reverse, press the gas, and the engine just revs. I was on a slight incline the first time, and when I let off the brake and pressed the gas, the truck rolled forward, so it was probably in neutral. Both times the gear selector clearly said I was in 'R'.

Anyone else? Seems to only happen right after startup.

take it to the dealer and get the fluid level checked, as well as the operation.

What fluid level? I would have thought this was an electrical problem. The shifter not sending the signal to the transmission. Since I can't reproduce it, I'm going to have a tough time getting an explanation out of them.

Oh, and I found if I just shift back to park, then reverse, it engages fine.

yes but you said it happened on a incline, so if the fluid is low its not able to build pressure ie, applying the reverse clutch correctly until it has time to build pressure, shifting back and forth.

or it is the range selector which it still needs attention. your transmission should never feel like it isn't going into gear.

thats why i said take it to the dealer and have the fluid and operation checked.

The incline was less that 5 degrees. Just enough to roll the truck forward slowly. I'll take it to the dealer this week to look at, but like I said unless I can reproduce it, I'm sure they will find nothing.

Oh, and the truck has only 3k miles on it, and I've seen no fluids on the garage floor. I just figured I'd ask the community to see if anyone else has seen this quirk.
