seems like dashlights only work with daylight sensor ?

There are times when it is overcast outside in the morning/evening and I turn the headlights on (manually) but the dash lights don't come light up. Is this because they are connected to the daylight sensor? My 06 dash lit up whenever I turned the headlights on.

Correct, it decides whether the dash lights are needed or not. If you want them on, just cover the sensor.

They are connected to the light sensor and only come on when its dark enough. It was wierd when I first bought the truck, i had it to the dealer thought it was a wire issue but turned out to be the way they operate with the sensor.Took a little getting use to

It’s the square hump on the top middle of the dash, near the windshield.

Actually I like this feature. I don't like the dash lights dimming during the light hours when the lights come on. I guess different strikes for different folks!
