You can also do the fronts just by removing the grilles only, not the door panels.
johnwill, ibcop is right, You have to remove the front and rear door panels to change out the speakers. The grill does come off but it does not give you access to the speaker.

My truck is work/personal so for practical puposes I did not need or want a lariat and I think it is sad on Ford's part that this is the best they could do for a stereo in an XLT with no other option available to the buyer. This was almost a deal breaker but, I was sold on the ride and build quality.
If you was impressed by the Bose system then you shouldnt have to spend hardly anything to make it better than that. They are some of the worst so called "Audiophile" car systems on the market. My wifes mazda has it and it's a pile of poop.

How good (or bad) does the Sony Navigation system sound in the 09's and 10's?

Oh really.

I only said you can do the fronts by just removing the grilles only, vs, the entire door panel, because I did remove and replace the front speakers by only removing the grilles.

Thanks

They sound very good. They dont hit major SPL but they sound real nice. It's a very balanced system.

For stock stereo I would get a speaker with some mid bas to it like a Kicker 2 way or Infinity two way. I bought Alpine two ways for the wife's explorer they sound nice but lack mid bass. Speakers are very personal so listen and pick your own taste. yes they were noticeably better than stock Ford paper, I think were made in Asia...

I prefer two way speakers, I think three ways are too much highs and noise..

If you are new to installing audio equipment in a vehicle then you should get someone to help you or atleast buy from a place that will give you the proper stuff for your vehicle. One of the best places I've been buying my audio equipment from for years is Crutchfield. They may not always have the lowest price but they know what fits in every vehicle and provide excellent vehicle specific directions, all wiring adapters and even a new faceplate if it's needed. They also have free tech support if you need help.

i dont think we need to put ALL that money on speekers to have a better sound!!!
the stock systeme is OK only listening to a cd or ipod....but sound is very good when we "equalize" the sound with the same ipod (ex jazz, country, rock..ect)

i think we need those good old "booster/equalizer" we use to have 10-15 years ago!!!

So sorry to hear about your dissapointment with the stereo in your wife's mazda. I "was" impressed with the bose system in my truck for what it was.
This is simply a personal opinion and not a professional endorsement. Lacking the extensive knowlege that someone like yourself possesses, I am just seeking some advice on upgrading the speakers in my present truck. If I were looking for an "audiophile" system, I'd find a reputable retailer/installer and order one up.
