Just wanted to share something I noticed the other day about the '09 bed extender. I was taking my BBQ propane tank in for a refill and noticed the split bed extender works real well if you just open one side a bit from the "stored" position (don't flip it OR connect the two sides) and insert the propoane tank then close the extender frame around the tank use one small bungee cord (to hold the two open ends together) and you are good to go!! Sure beats the previous rigid unit where I would have had to use at least 2 or three bungee cords to secure to bottle to the tubes

Much faster and more secure

Not silly at all - those tanks are the worst for transporting - glad you found a good solution.
