This works everytime. Who cares if the filter is damaged during removal? Just get it off, whatever it takes. Seems like they're so tight because they're installed dry at the factory.
I've noticed some tighter places for filters on new engines and found the unmarked OE filter is actually an FL500 in place of the FL820. (it has a smaller OD) Example is the '09+ Escape 3.0L V6.
