Talking Playing with the USB on Sync

And sure enough my USB powered Woot lights worked, got a chuckle out of it. Now I gotta see what other USB devices will work on it.

It's a standard USB port so you should be able to run anything that runs on USB power.

Is the USB port powered all the time, or only when you activate it through the NAV or voice command?

My first thought was it was pretty neat in that you could turn your lights on with a voice command.....

Mine ran all the time, I didn't have to tell Sync to turn on. Plus I was running another device on USB2 at the same time.

It is powered at all time. My IPod is constantly charging even when I am listening to the Sat radio.

I noticed that my passport external hard drive was lit when my ignition was off. I leave it in the glovebox all the time. Is this running my battery down?

So using a USB splitter should work as well... hmmm... I just happen to have a spare one laying around. I'll have to see if I can charge my cell phone and play my Ipod at the same time using a splitter.

For those with NAV, are you able to load photos and/or music using the USB? The instruction book only went through loading them via CD. USB would be much more convenient...

Bummer... I'll try it anyway, but I'll wait until it cools down to 95 degrees first. If I have any luck, I'll let ya' know. Based on your experience and the fact that the instruction book doesn't mention it, it probably won't work.
