Hey guys,

Over at fordaccessoriesstore.com they have the vehicle security kit (car alarm) for $194 w/out install and $334 w/ install. Is this something that I can install myself if I decide to just have it mailed directly to me?

For $194 and some sort of alarm on my truck I would sleep a little better

I never liked my factory remote, too short of a range. This one might be further but still for comparable money you can get more features.

 

I don't mind the remote. It seems pretty decent. I had a Viper 2 way on my last truck and that thing wasn't always accurate.

Plus I heard from the dealership its an easy install just plugging in some sort of chip since the trucks now are pre-wired for the alarms. Can anybody confrim this?

 

Bingo - great question...anyone out there done this before? Now that I think about it, I don't even think a factory alarm was an option on my '09...would have thought it would be standard on the Plat?

didn't you already ask this before....The factory systems are not plug and play! You have to splice and connect the wires just like any other system.

the system you posted is just a very basic alarm with shock sensor, and just uses the factory RKE fob. Spend a few more bucks and get the factory "Gold" alarm/remote start system with 6-button key fob. 7L3Z-19G364-AA Remote Start w/Deluxe Vehicle Security & Keyless Entry Kit (RKE/VSS/RMST)

Take the part number for whatever system you are looking at and look it up on www.tascafordparts.com to see if they have a better price.

This website has some of the older install instructions (2007) for the Ford systems, you would just need to get the new 09 wiring diagram. http://www.gemsen.com/ford/pdf/

 

you still have an 04? The 04-08 factory RKE remote range did stink. The new 09 factory RKE remote range is tons better! It appears to go almost as far as the Ford "silver" remote start system remote I had on my old 04 FX4.

The big question is can I install this myself or will I NEED to have the dealership do it?

 

you have to splice into about a dozen wires in different locations and remove some trim panels to access these wires. if this sounds like something you can do then go for it.

 

Yea I am ok with that... I have installed my own stereo head units before. Must be similar to that.
