Nice. So did you pull the lense off the light and spray the chrome, or just mask off the red part and put two coats on the lense covering the chrome? Wanna do mine? How difficult is the process?

I love it with the black truck.

I have silver and need to find a way to make the tails less of an eye sore.

Here is how I did it.

Taped off the red and backup light.
Wetsanded with 600 grit
2 coats Niteshades over chromed areas
Removed tape
Wetsanded with 600 grit
1 coat Nightshades over everything
Wetsanded with 1000 grit
3 coats of Clear Coat Enamel
Wetsanded with 1000 grit between each coat
Let dry overnight
Wetsanded with 1500 grit
Buffed 5 times with rubbing compound using orbital buffer
2 coats of Meguir's PlasticX
1 coat of Meguir's Deep Crystal Polish

It took awhile to do. It wasn't hard. Just took my time. The worst part is waiting for things to dry between coats. I found other thingd to do. Blacked out my exhaust & painted wheel wells.

The tails look great, man. Nice work!

I've got a black FX4 also, and would like to do something about the tails. Has anybody had the guts to try and remove the taillight lens? Ideally, I'd like to take the lens off, paint only the chrome trim, then reassemble the clear lens back on (like folks did on the previous generation headlights. The only thing holding me back is that I don't want to crack the lens trying to remove it or ending up with a not-completely-sealed assembly and getting the dreaded condensation on the inside.

as long as the lense is glued (not molded) into the taillight housing oyu should be able to remove the lense. i took the lense off mine and painted the inside (keep in mind mine is a '01 tho)

if the lense is molded on i know some guys on the ranger forums have dremeled their tails apart.

I was planning on waiting for raptor heads and tails until I saw this pics. Notice the grey line around the edge. That would look bad on a black truck. I havent noticed it on the heads. I might wait for those ro I might get a wild hair and throw them in the oven
