first-time buyer

so ill be the first to say i don't know a goddamn thing about trucks. i know they have 4 wheels and a steering wheel and thats about it. however im in the market to buy a pickup since it will be more suitable for my 6'5" frame (i have an accord now) and simply because they're badass.

i was looking at f150s, rangers and maybe even tacomas (blasphemy on this site). every person whos opinion i consider valuable regarding trucks has different thoughts on the 3 above ranging from "thats a ****ty truck" to "theyre ****ing sexy" and everything in between.

i just want something simply that wont die on me and i wont have to be taking it to the repair shop every week. im not going to be doing anything like offroading or playing around in the mud.

anyone have any thoughts/suggestions? thanks

Built Ford Tough is not a motto, its a fact. Get a fullsize.

Being 6'-5"/6'-6" myself and 350+ I found a ranger to be bearable, but not totally acceptable. I moved up to the F-150 and love it so much better. I gets similar mileage with better looks, better ride, and more options (FX4) all with tons more power.

What is the purpose for the purchase of the vehicle? Lots of highway miles, looks, hauling cargo/people? Region of residence decide the need or want for 4wd? Goals and wants basically help us help you.

i would go with the full size as you can do so much more with it i have had dodge, chev, gmc they dont compare to a ford and the ranger is a wanta-be truck and gets about the same gas mileage .

One of the best vehicles I have ever owned was a 95 1/2 Tacoma.

Being your size, you would love an F-150 Screw. I have an 09 and it is a special truck, you would not be dissapointed.

If you want a car, but anything you want, who cares. If you're going to buy a truck, buy a Ford. Period.

Forget a Ranger, too small for a guy your size. My 2001 Ranger was fine for me but I'm 5'7". Now that I'm in a full size F-150 I would never go back. You'll wonder how you ever drove anything else.

Test drive different vehicles and you can decide which is best for you. Naturally, people are going to say buy a F150 on this site.

After owning a BMW, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and an Acura I can say with great confidence that you won't be disappointed with a new F150. I took the plunge into Ford in 2005 and wow what an outcome it has been. I really can't imagine owning anything else. As a matter of fact I'm preparring to get my wife one as well, due to the two of us arguing over who'll take it for the day. My 05' F150 was a spectacular trouble free vehicle in which I actually enjoyed owning and driving. Due to that I decided to buy a new one. I'm a Ford guy ALL THE WAY now! There is nothing else like it. Built Ford Tough, you just can't go wrong!

P.S. I passed up a hell of deal on a 05' Maserati for this truck and boy am I glad I did.

I wouldn't really consider the Ranger, they're good little trucks but kinda small IMO. Both the F-150 and the Tacoma are quality trucks - the features you want and the amount you have to spend will affect your decision though. Both have a large following and large online communities if that means much to you. There is a big aftermarket for both as well but that's probably not important really either (just trying to think of things).

Go with the full size F150 period. I went from a 00 s-10 and can't imagine ever going back to a mid size pickup.

I've had two close friends who have had extended cab Rangers. I also owned an Isuzu Rodeo which is about the same size as a Ford Explorer. I am 6'3" and since the Rodeo I have owned 3 full size trucks. I prefer the full size trucks and will never go back, and if I do I will continue to own a full size truck also, but that will not happen for a long time.

Did you end up getting a F150 or a Ranger? Congrats either way.
